i think it depends how much you pay for your room, cos its a huge halls
so if you pay little money you'll have a whack room, if you pay more you might get a nice one
just goin mainly off what i've been told
my halls in Leeds were crap, but so much fun
its what you do with what you have
take your decks, make your flat mad party flat and get mashed and slam fit uni chicks

where are u living in owens park?
might as well take them tbh, even though the rooms are mostly very small. just don't have too much other shit.
also owens park is a little like prison. if anyone complains you will need to punch them up straight away to assert yourself or risk being seen as a victim and subjected to regular noise complaints.

deep, that's the toughest part of the complex, you may have to fight simply to establish yourself on the corridor.

record shops are in town mainly
Picadilly Records for a massive range of music, seriously, such a great shop, staff are standard record shop staff...
Eastern Bloc for you Drum n Bass really, smallish dubstep section but DnB is the one in there
both in Northern Quarter, if you get a bus from Owens Park up towards uni and keep going past uni into town you get dropped at Picadilly Gardens, to the north of the bus station across the gay little fountain bit is a road called Oldham St. and Picadilly is on there, Eastern bloc used to be aswell, but thats round the corner now, still very close though
King Bee records in Chorlton/Old Trafford for you reggae... seriously, proper crate diggers shop
Choice records is an internet one but you can pick up in Withington (just further on from fallowfield where you'll be, opposite way from uni down Wilmslow Rd.) to avoid postage costs
good DnB selection and strongish Dubstep selection...
Picadilly is the one though

get to your halls as quickly as you can so you can arrange the room so you have the most space. thats what i did to fit some gear

I was in OP 1st year...
It's not as bad as people make out at all (food's pretty shit though) - and although it's a big halls, Owens Park is the same price no matter where you are.
Regarding decks, I'd say bring them, quite a few people had them when I was there and no breakages I don't think...
edit: rooms are pretty small though but you can make space as posts above me are saying...
