The USA is about to execute a likely innocent man

Just wanted to raise this here as I'm sure there are a lot of Amnesty International supporters on the board.

Troy Davis is scheduled to be executed tonight in the state of Georgia.

He has been on death row for 20 years for allegedly shooting a police officer. He has always protested his innocence and claims he is a victim of mistaken identity.

Troy did not receive a fair trial.
NO evidence what so ever has been presented to link him to the crime
6 witnesses have recanted their statements saying that they were pressured by police to name him
7-9 witnesses saw another man commit the murder

Please pressure the state of Georgia for clemency. There is FAR too much doubt to send a possibly innocent man to his death

This is a statement from Troy to Amnesty and his supporters:

"The struggle for justice doesn't end with me. This struggle is for all the Troy Davises who came before me and all the ones who will come after me. I'm in good spirits and I'm prayerful and at peace. But I will not stop fighting until I've taken my last breath."

How is this misleading? I am citing this information straight from the Amnesty website. I got "6" wrong when it's "7"

There is no physical evidence linking him to the crime of which he is convicted.

- 7 out of 9 witnesses say another committed the murder

7 out of 9 witnesses to the case have withdrawn their statements, citing police coercion.

That is verbatim from Amnesty ^

What are you talking about?

I know they did but he is not dead yet, and it is worth fighting on for justice. There is still hope if people make their voices heard.

If that was true, 7 to 9 people giving evidence would surely sway it.

You'd like to think so!

I'm simply getting these stats from Amnesty who I trust are not distorting the facts

Yeah sure, can't see how common sense would be lost here.
A british man wrongly convicted of rape was jailed for 17 years before being released, that was last year I think. This shit shouldn't happen in this day and age.

Regardless of everything, it's pretty sad this entire case is built on flimsy eyewitness testimony, and that that kind of evidence alone constitutes the death penalty.

happens every day, even with dna evidence and eye-witness accounts brought up in appeals. when someone is convicted here, you have to go through hell and high water to get it overturned
and i'm sorry, but an online petition isn't going to help his cause.

americans just. don't. care.
