i've decided i'm gonna attempt to make some tunes.
i listen to literally all sorts but i've never really made any sort of electronic music before (i play guitar) but i figure there's no reason to delay it any further.

can anyone recommend a good fairly idiot proof piece of music software i could use to fuck about and get a feel for it.
i have mad ideas for tunes already just need an outlet to help me experiment a bit.

cheers in advance

Ableton... none fucking other. Anything you can do in anything else, you can do in Ableton... I personally use Ableton and Reason usually, but sometimes dabble in Cubase when I get bored with it all. A BRILLIANT software to start on is Fruity Loops... if you can't make a good tune with Fruity Loops, give up... or work harder, and until you can make a sick tune with that, I suggest not movingup to anything else.

What is most important is that you actually know how to compose tunes, before you produce them. Save us all from your latest "dabbling" and bust out a real tune. Ultimate feeling is posting a work that you think is amazing and waiting to hear back... nauseating.

Music hardware is even better. It's alot firmer and more malleable.

Well, it's good to an extent... like I'd rather have a real 303, but I'd probably still just take maybe an MPC, laptop, controller, and a pedal or something to perform with... I don't mind live pa, but once you are like DDR and bringing an entire 32 channel mixer and all that, it gets a bit excessive :D

besides, Software is a LOT more accessible and affordable for someone who doesn't know if this is a hobby or not--quite a bit has changed since 1989 :D

I still like the hardware, though.

okay, time to be serious. get reason 3. if you have to get a"trial" version at first, but if you use it, definitely buy it. Its what i learned on, and its a great little program. not to mention super stable, and it'll run on almost anything.

If Reason's stability is due to it exclusion of VST's, then you can keep it. Live is the new way.

okay, i've got a new suggestion:

RENOISE

there are things that you can do in this in 5 minutes that would take hours in anything else (even ableton).

oh and its only 50 euros and its hyper-efficient.
