If you listen to his stuff he;s definitely got melody. Lots of old dubby artists like Jimmy Cliff too. Have you ever heard the bass on "I Can See Clearly Now"?
Discuss.

Lee Scratch Perry in a collab with Jammy and King Tubby would be... out of this world.
And yes, they're sick producers - waaaay better then anyone on the dubstep scene has ever been. Imagine what tools they had back then. Nothing compared to what a standard bedroom producer has today.

There;s some Lee Perry dubstep around. He's into it, I've seen him a couple of times in the last few years and there's some live hints of some dubsteppish stuff. He collabed with Dubblestandart and David Lynch himself on some stuff:
There's more too, check the EPs out. I guess he didn't "produce" it, more like remixes wit him... but he's definitely into it. Maybe we'll see something with more involvement, I hope so.

He is a sick producer. He doesn't even have to produce anymore, he's already legendary. He was among the first to embrace dub and some of his reggae albums are total classics. I wouldn't really consider Jimmy Cliff dubby but he's a classic Reggae artist as well. There are loads of ruff basslines in classic Reggae.

kode 9 & lee perry-- big tune from 2 years back:
nyc's subatomic sound system was instrumental in making those dubblestandart collabo's happen; Emsch is a don.

I had the privelage of opening for him in 2009
he's a trip and a half
from what I gathered talking and listening to him... he's a dub purist and isn't too big a fan of some of the "electronic sounding basses"

just wikied him to see the discography. the sentence "He employs numerous pseudonyms, such as Pipecock Jackxon..." in the very first paragraph has instantly made him my new favorite person.

Do love Lee Scratch Perry, but I would be a bigger fan of Scientist's music so when I heard Scientist and Tectonic were getting together for that remix album I got really excited about it, but then when I heard it I was little disappointed. So one part of me thinks maybe just stick to the Dub Reggae but having said that Lee Scratch Perry has produced some amazing records outside of Dub Reggae for the Clash and Rolling Stones, so it would be interesting to hear anyway

He did 'Complete Control' with the Clash, as for the Rolling Stones I'm just after realizing I got that one wrong, I thought he produced 'Goats Head Soup' which was recorded in Kingston but I was wrong, BUT Mick Jagger & Keith Richards did release the bush doctor album which featured Sly & Robbie, also Peter Tosh and it was even produced by Peter Tosh, also produced in Kingston, stones did have a big Reggae influence.
