those aren't monitors

wtf is hype machine... you can consolidate the spamming to your spam thread, no need to smear it all over your production question thread

anyway you aren't going to get monitors worth monitoring on for less than $300 - 500 / pair, lowest. U get what u pay for, and tbh you can skimp on every other piece of kit, DAW (reaper), instruments and mix tools (freeware), preamps, microphones even, but NOT on monitors. I wouldn't advise getting anything in that price range. They're the most important component of your entire chain IMHO, you need to hear what you're doing. They're basically your rig's ears.

i was able to procure perfect condition event 20/20's with an amp for $200 on craigslist. so maybe some m-audio bx5as for under $150? I had the m-audios, they are not bad for the price range but its worth saving for better if you can. gonna be tough to find anything but i wouldnt say impossible.

save till you got 300-400 to spend. buying $150 monitors is just setting yourself up to waste money and buying new monitors a year later. just use any old pair of speakers till you can get some decent monitors...trust me you will thank me in the end. btw i had the promedia 2.1's and there decent for listening but the sub is really not great. a little muddy and boomy and is def not near flat. but if you must get them, then they're probly your best bet.

i recommend

fostex pm1 mkii's
krk rp6

inexpensive, quality, gets the job done...

Yeah the fostex are good, can also probably find some Samson Rubicons for around that price, and some older KRKs. I'm talking used prices. You should be able to track some down with enough hunting. Look up the monitors mentioned in this thread, and you'll find info and comparisons with ones in similar price ranges (MSRP). I've even seen some Mackie MR5 go for 200, so save up some more while you hunt around.

your #4 on hype machine and dont have monitors? decent effort imo...
i have these because they were in stock at where i used to work but they were never getting sold because the business had nothing to do with audio as it was an Apple Service center so i bought them from them at $200AU which was a decent price at the time and i have loved them ever since. Nice compact cabinet, very clear and have some decent power. i also have them hooked up to a giant jamo hi fi sub (tuned to grab the bits my monitors might miss) that i occasionally use to check sub bass and just when im getting hectic when im home by myself haha. but yeah definitely check them out because they fall close to your price range and are very good for what you pay imo.

and to give u an idea of size

dont take any of that sound into account though, dont really know why people post tests of monitors on youtube, considering the person viewing it will probably listening through some shitty speakers and youtubes just rapes the quality of everything.

oh and the wooden finish goes very nicely with my desk haha.

This. Save up and buy some proper monitors, its important. Then spend some money on acoustic treatment for your studio.

And headphones aren't ideal for mixdowns/mastering as you have 100% stereo seperation between channels, so the tune will sound different when played through speakers.
