Seeking online teacher. Paying via PayPal.

Hello everyone. As the title suggests, I'm seeking someone who would be a good production teacher. I'm well aware that there is an entire thread dedicated to learning production, but because of my personality, I'm certain that paying someone to give me one-on-one lessons would be the quickest path of progression. It would give me a strict schedule to adhere to; as well as further motivate me to try harder. It would also give me the best starting point; as there are many pieces to the puzzle of electronic music production.
I'm specifically interested in what some people may consider to be "brostep" and drum 'n bass techniques. I've been playing guitar for eight years and have written a number of songs, so I'm not looking for any sort of songwriting or theory lesson(although I don't know any theory. I'm entirely self-taught). I'd like to learn things like synthesis, how to make my own drum sounds and give them groove, etc. Basically just how to achieve the high-quality production values heard from modern producers such as Skrillex, Excision, Datsik, etc.
Obviously since I'll be paying, I would like to know a bit about you before I commit. I'd like to hear an example of your work if at all possible, as well as get an idea of your teaching experience. I can pay via PayPal; and I'm able to take lessons using AIM, Skype, MSN Messager, or even Facebook chat.
I use Logic Pro 9 as my DAW of choice. I also have NI Massive and FM 8. It would be perfect if I could learn from a fellow Logic user, but if you don't use Logic, yet you feel confident enough that you could still teach me what I need to know(and then I'd be able to apply what I learned to Logic), then that's great as long as I can be convinced. Feel free to reply to this thread, send me a private message, or drop me an email at
stinkymongoose@msn.com. Sorry about the email; I've had it since fifth grade and was always too lazy to change it.

Thanks in advance, and please try to keep any sort of "THAT'S NOT REAL DUBSTEP" etc. comments to yourselves; as you can't tell me anything I haven't already heard a thousand times over.
*EDIT* - When I say I'm specifically interested in learning dubstep techniques, that doesn't mean I don't want to learn everything there is to know. I want someone to start at square one with me and cover everything. I simply meant that dubstep is where my heart lies for the ultimate endgame of learning.

So basically, you want someone to teach you how to use synths and processing techniques?
It'll be in your interest to learn the fundamentals of subtractive synthesis and basic drum programming/layering - moving onto things such as compression, reverb, delay, EQing, limiting, etc, etc, etc...
You can't be taught this in a few extensive lessons - it will only brush over things unless you're willing to spend a good amount of money..
Something like this would be worth while...
http://www.pointblankonline.net/music-p ... logy-1.php
I wouldn't learn how to make Dubstep or drum and bass or things like a certain artist, you will box yourself in and eventually you will move on from that sound - trust me!
I used to make proper aggressive hiphop; now i make insanely mellow ambient and deeper dubstep.. I wish i'd learned just techniques of the craft, understand the synths I had properly and learned more things about the general craft of making music.
EDIT: But this depends how serious you are about it - if you just wanna make yoi basses then youtube is a much cheaper and better source.

Hmm, I didn't mean to come across that way. I don't really know what I'm talking about, hence my requesting lessons. I'd like to learn everything there is to know; all I meant was that I plan on applying all that knowledge specifically into dubstep-esque music.

Also, that's expensive as FUCK compared to what I've been offered before. I was going to pay someone $40 U.S. dollars per lesson whose work I admired and they seemed very knowledgeable. The only reason I'm looking for someone else is because he's been commissioned to produce for an artist for a month or so, and I figured I'd weigh out my other options. Not to mention the fact that I don't want "video feedback". I want live help. If I have a question or feel confused about something, I want to be able to clear it up right then and there. I have no problem admitting that I'm pretty stupid sometimes and am not the best learner.

You can get that for free, via networking! This isn't the kinda scene where people just shun those who are new to making music.

That's really awesome of you guys, but I'm afraid I might wear out my welcome a bit! You see, I don't even know what questions to ask. At the risk of degrading my intelligence, I pretty much wanted to be treated as though I were retarded. Real basic, square-one type of learning. I suppose if I don't find what I'm looking for soon then I'll give it a shot. I really appreciate it. I just want to get this out of the way as quickly as possible. I'm not getting any younger, and I seriously need to start pursuing this ASAP.

				1. I would sign up for some piano lessons to get some theory going.
2. Buy a Digital Audio Workstation and learn it like the back of your hand.
3. Watch alot of video tutorials on YouTube of how to do things in your DAW (nfxbeats puts out some really good tutorials).
4. Make tracks

As I said before, I've been playing guitar for eight years now; entirely self taught. I have no desire to learn theory at all whatsoever. I use my ear. I can play everything from classical-influenced shred guitar in the style of Yngwie Malmsteen, to progressive music such as Opeth, to mellow things, classic rock, blues, etc. I know plenty about writing music. I just want to learn how to make what's in my head sound good in a DAW. I already have Logic Pro 9, as I also already stated above. And once again; I have no idea what lessons I would even need to look up on youtube. I'll try saying this one more time to make it perfectly clear: I have no idea what I'm doing/where to start. I want to pay someone MONEY to guide me through the FASTEST, most EFFECTIVE path to what my goal is possible. I don't have three years to spend learning a bunch of stuff. I want to get this done ASAP. I want to work hard at it and start producing my own music within a year's time. I already found someone who was willing to teach me and claimed they could show me everything I need to know after about ten lessons provided I practiced and did my homework in my own free time. They're a very well-respected producer and very talented, so I KNOW what I'm asking for is possible.

oh I forgot to mention nfxbeats teaches FL, so thats a no-go for you since you're in Logic. and by music theory, thats exactly what I meant. I don't know all the technical mumbo jumbo behind it, but I started piano lessons in kindergarten and continued on learning instruments like flute, saxaphone, percussion, harmonica, etc. and playing piano and whatnot. Got into electronic production about 3 years ago... so I can write melody and do stuff by ear easily now. But if you
don't want to spend years learning, this isn't your game bro...very few people can learn that much in such little time. Nobody is ever finished learning, after twenty years of experience, you still have stuff to learn. All forms of art take patience.
I hope you don't mind me asking, but why in such a hurry?

I didn't mean that I expect to learn "everything" in a year, because I agree. I still have a lot of things I could learn on guitar if I chose to. But I don't choose to, because I'm extremely comfortable and satisfied with where my level of playing is. It would be the same with production. All I want to do is get to a level where I feel comfortable putting my material out there for the world to hear. I will always have new tricks to learn, but I just want to learn the most essential ones to sounding professional ASAP. I'm in a hurry because I'm a jobless 22 year old with no future unless I get this done. The day the sound quality of my tracks are good enough to be included in a mix alongside artists like Skrillex, Datsik, etc, is the day I feel confident enough. I don't want to rip their styles off, I just want my sound quality to be on par. I want my tracks to sound good in club systems as well as ipods through a $20 pair of Wal-Mart headphones. Does that make more sense?

alright, well add me on AIM (the AIM icon under my username to the right of this post) and ask me any questions you have. I'll do my best to help you out. But for DAW-specific questions I won't be much help because I am a FL Studio user, not Logic.
You'll most likely learn a lot just from sticking around on this forum and being an active member. Read up as much as you can and participate, ask questions here (after reading the rules). And the quest for professional quality...well...that could take years to achieve...or it could be within months, its different for everybody. First thing, though, is to try and figure out how your daw works. How the audio is routed and whatnot. What MIDI is, etc.

I'd be happy to help you out here. I use Logic Pro 9, have Massive, etc. I have made music for over 20 years, I teach regularly and you can find examples of my tutorials all over the web. I currently produce music, sounds, themes, effects, etc for movies, television, radio, commercials, etc. I also currently produce an ongoing series of artist interviews featuring fellow musicians from all over the world, so I guess you could say it's pretty easy to check up on me and my reputation!

I also am the managing editor of a couple of pretty popular music community sites specifically focused on NI Massive and Dubstep, and would be happy to share more about that with you, if you are interested.
I have included links to some of my work and sites in my signature (no need to post more clutter, as this thread is already getting pretty long). Please do not hesitate to contact me at your convenience if you have any questions or just want to chat a little.
Best of luck finding the perfect fit for you!!
Cheers,
OhmLab

I know Rob Sparx was offering something of the sort for a while - I don't remember if it was only for "in person" or not.
I'll have to dig up the thread when I have more time...
