Audio Anarchy - Episode #24

Dubstep!!! I'm fuckin' infatuated with this shit. I heard it for the
first time last year at 1015 Folsom (SF) when Bassnectar opened for
Adam Freeland.

There was so much bass, I nearly shit my pants. It felt like I was
inside the speakers.

He rocked that shit hard. Ridiculously hard.

I didn't know what I was listening to at the time, but it inspired me
to go home and drop the tempo and work out the bass.

I came up with two tracks, both of which are on this mix. "Divide
Opinion" is an original production that appears 24 minutes into this
mix. "Wake Up" is the other one, it closes the set at 56 minutes in.
These two tracks are also the first two tracks on my upcoming
second album, "Paradigm Shift."

I only found out the genre was called, "dubstep" a couple of months ago.
I was record shopping at Reverb Records (SF) and they were playing
some dubstep. The owner (and rave legend), Mystre told me what the
genre was called and I've been hooked ever since.

If that isn't a great reason to support your local record store, I don't
know what is.

It is addictive isn't it. I didn't think I'd be into it, but its just so good for both chillaxing and also raving to.

yeah it is addictive. I think its fulfilling my need for the lack of dark breakbeats available (excluding drum&bass).

lovin' it.

Listenin' in now, seems pretty safe so far.

What is involved in mixing...do you have to aquire dubplates with tracks on them and then mix them together and add basslines? What equipment is needed? It sounds pretty fun.

The bassline that kicks in at 10:43 is pure unholy awesome.

I got to see Bassnectar a few years back and it was some sick bizness, ground shattering mid tempo breaks with sick Ragga DnB mashed up alongside some glitched out hip hop beats. Wouldnt really consider him dubstep but Loren is definetly on the same tip. Thats also pretty wild you picked up your first dubstep records from a Trance DJ. Im happy to see people from all walks of electronic music are embracing Dubstep. Big up the open minded crew. Props to you for throwing in some Bassnectar and Tipper on the mix.

Haywire - If you're thinking about mixing dubstep tracks but don't want to go with vinyl, then I'd say Ableton Live is something you should check out....

DJ Klinz - Hmmm...ok so Bassnectar isn't dubstep. Is that because his songs aren't at 140 bpm? Ok I think I'm getting it. So then what genre would you call the tracks that I made on this mix? As for getting dubstep from a trance DJ, yeah, his store's quite diverse in the music that they carry...

Well I would probably consider Bassnectar Breakbeat, mainly because well his beats are breakbeats and dont have the same structure as Dubstep more built like a nu skool breakbeat. He has worked with Freq Nasty on mesmerizing the ultra and he has had releases on functional breaks and bless recordings which are both breakbeat based labels. Some of his stuff is a little slower and a little more psychedelic but I think thats because Loren is more about writing songs and less about poppin out mixable singles. And as for the style of the music on your mix, it all seems to be dubstep except for the tipper and bassnectar which i consider to be breakbeat artists. Ive really be digging slower breaks lately, no one has really put a tag on that sound yet that ive heard. Havent got to listen to the mix yet but plan on jamming it tomarrow, look forward to hearing it the tracklisting looks very nice.

Respect,
