Possession of weapons of mass destruction is used by America to start a war with Iraq.
later reports prove there were none.

Assassination plot to kill Saudi ambassador is used by America to start war with Iran?
always thought they'd at least try a believable excuse to start a new war once they got out of Iraq and Afghanistan

Let's wait and see. Everyone who got all charged up thinking the US wanted a war with Libya (oil interests, etc) are unsurprisingly hushed at the moment.
I agree that this event needs to be looked at with a skeptical eye though. Any person at any level could have been tricked. The guy might have even been sold out by his higher ups, or been misled by a third party (Pakistan or anyone really) in order to poke America's side to go to war with Iran.
Firmly settling on "used by America to start a war with Iran" would be very naive and foolish at this stage.

And i think America may be more interested in stirring up the existing animosity between the Shia bloc (Iran, Syria, Bahrain, Lebanon, Iraq's elected leaders, Hezbollah) and the Sunni bloc (Saudi Arabia and most everybody else) for its own ends as well.
Who will the Druze fight for?

I'd be surprised, but irate. This would be political suicide in the current climate, tbh. The Iranian middle classes need supporting to join the Spring, they don't need bombing so they join the hardliners out of patriotism.

not so naive to think they'd start a war over this, but it's a kind of 'testing the water' move they've been doing more of recently to find an angle.
remember the assassination of arch duke ferdinand led to alliances being pulled into conflict in ww1.
iran and the us are both actively involved in fomenting shia sunni splits. blaming iran is just another one of these moves.
a couple of senators in the us have been talking about war with iran as a possibility after this, which is a bit scary
