noisia bassline attempt (feedback please) :D

whenever I see tutorials and tips for people trying to recreate a noisia bassline, most, if not all of them say to resample, process, repeat. it sounds easy as hell but I just can't seem to do it.. so I was fucking around in my DAW with the new z3ta 2 demo while having that crazy bass in mind, and got some pretty cool results. it would be awesome if I could get some feedback how it is and what I should do next, im only 14 and still fairly new to producing so keep the hates to a minimum please.

you have a basic yet noisy sound there.
elements of the sound are what you`re looking for.
Cut out elements and create a rythmic bass/lead line.
Process it futrther.
Right now it is a mess really with positive elements

So, how do I process and bring out the "elements of sound"?

listen to noisia to hear the elements you like most.
Go find those in your sound.
8 secs is a good drawn out wum that can be stretch and reprocessed.
and again at 10 secs is a useable sound.
crush, distory, chorus, etc.

Thanks for the help. Back to the drawing board I suppose. (:

I wouldn`t go that far.
you have the core of the sound
just finess it

I went messing about myself with a Noisia type sound. i need to make the hi end sound more acidy/plastic sounding maybe.

Altogether that's pretty good, i'd kill the reverb though. How did you make it?

Listen to Facade for 2 hours straight and you'll have it locked

use an EQ to find the best parts of the frequency and give them a little gain. And vice versa, bit's that sound muddy, hollow, ringy etc, basically any unpleasant sound that you don't want (or maybe do want

), use subtractive EQing to reduce them. Then resample, add modulation fx that modulate around those 'sweet' spots. With each fx plugin you'll probably need to use subtractive EQ as unwanted harmonics will be produced.

you can get an unofficial demo of pretty much any synth from the pirate bay, beats waiting for them to release one. god knows why they haven't, it can only help sales.

Get a good filter like Volcano or Filterscape. That sound is way too harsh.

that sound in and of itself is not that bad. however, if you're going for a noisia type reese then it needs to be much more detuned than it is. Start with a few different wave forms and detune them from each other (15-40 cents). You can even use an lfo or envelope to modulate the amount of detuning there is to give the sound more movement. Then the best way is to frequency split it with either 3 bands (bass, mids, highs) or 2 bands (mids and highs) and layer a sub underneath. apply some notch filters and maybe some light chorus and some good tube distortion to the mids, as well as some light reverb. Then add some saturation and some exciter distortion and maybe a bandpass filter to the highs (focus on modulating different parameters of each effect so that the sound keeps moving, and make different patches with different modulations so you have a few patterns with a similar overall sound, but varying modulations.) Eq each band separately at the end, then compress each (if it's needed). Then put everything back together and add some effects to the overall patch, maybe some saturation, more notches, flange, etc. Then compress and eq the patch as one whole. obviously this is not the gospel as there are many ways to make a decent reese patch, but this is a tried and true method. Also keep in mind that noisia spends countless hours working on patches and sounds, they are by no means easy to create, so don't beat yourself up when your first patch doesn't seem to match up. They have been perfecting their craft for years, and if you are only 14, then my friend you are well on your way. Anyways, this is just my 0.02 cents. Hope this helps.

The noisia bass sound is something out of this world, they have perfected it very well. Mostly your sounds is way to harsh, get a nice detuned reese and also you can layer different synths like i sometimes layer my maelstrom reese with a thor and then an fm8 reese so its very large and very big. Then you are definetly wanna start adding some nice distortions and movement. What i tend to do is actually bounce that whole layered reese out and then throw them in exs24 one perfectly normal and the other exs24 -1 cent, so they are super detuned, making you have lots of movement. You would then add some more disortion of course subtly so you can accentuate different harmonics in different ways and then i would start modulating a notch or 2. Mostly a notch filter will give it a sweeping kinda of movement and having 2 of them will make it sound pretty sick as it is. I will then split frequencies and i will tell you this because, you can keep your sub with the movement and the saturation you threw on it making it as one with your mid and hi end, and with your mid and hi end, go to town with different filters. Since your doing your mid and hi's only the filters will become more prominant. Try different filtering techniques, recently this was my worst area possible but now its getting better and what i do is try different routings. I use a lowpass filter and envelope the cutoff to make it have movement and of course you can try any other filter from highpass to bandpass and have mostly similar automations of movement, but alter them slightly.
an example with me doing this with my reeses is this tune i made a while ago, coming out on dubline records october 24th (shameless promotion

)
Soundcloud
and another example is this tune right here but this s a very thin sounding reese but the filter movement is sick imo

if you need any more help i dont mind explaining more

The 2 longer posts just above were incredibly helpful! Thanks guys!
I have one question though - what is a notch filter? Its a term I see a lot and I'm not totally sure what it is. My assumption was that you just take an EQ8, pick a frequency with a narrow Q and give it a pretty big boost. Then you can automate / modulate the frequency position for some cool noises etc...

No, that would be more like a formant (formants are resonant boosts in the areas associated with speech if I'm not mistaken). A notch would be to take OUT a chunk of the sound rather than boost. So pick a frequency, set it to a narrow q and automate. You can also automate the Q as well for a more dramatic effect. This can obviously also be done by using a notch filter as well.
