WTF Jamie Woon, Seriously???!!!???111!!!

So, I went to the Hessle audio thing at Motion last night. Great music on a decent sound system. Up steps Pangea, playing an absolutely blinding set, mixing was spot on and tunes where perfect. Jamie Woon is due to step up next for a live set. Jamie, his band, and his own sound engineer; decided that it was the perfect time to do a full on sound check (mics, music, everything) over the top of Pangea's set.

I understand how vitally important a sound check is for a live artist, I really do however, why would you do it during somebody else's set. Seriously unimpressed by this lack of respect. I bet Pangea was fuming.

Rant*

Guess he was late so couldn't do it before it started. Major twatish thing to do though. Pangea should have hurled poo at him.

I don't have a problem with him at all, musically he is brilliant and he has a divine voice. I know it was a must, just wish it could have been done a little differently. I would have genuinely preferred a 10 minute interlude between pangea and Jamie woon to allow time for a soundcheck. It just made the last ten minutes or so of pangeas set a little disappointing.

Enough respect though, all sets were huge and the music was spot on. Shame nobody reached for the wanka dubs though. I heard he has just been signed to hessle.

he should have just done a swift soundcheck at the start of his set and lost 5 minutes, or just gone for it and have the soundguy do a mad fast live one

Or get the sound guy to do it with headphones on and sort it while they perform live.

What a rotten thing to do. Boo to Jamie Woon.

lol @ soundchecking through headphones

i think the point with the soundcheck is to get the levels right with the gear going through the actual PA in the club, its not the same as mixing down a track, its all about the audio acoustics of the room/environment, the type of speakers, the mixing desk, how easy it is for the performers to hear themselves through their monitors etc.

dont think you can really do that through headphones

I know they would ideally liekto hear it coming from the speakers. But a simple mix of levels can be done using headphones. The finer details can be sorted 5 minutes beforehand, rather than speaking over someone elses music.

Absolutely agree! I really would have appreciated that a whole bunch more. I know it wasn't necessarily Jamie Woon's fault and more the fault of the engineer but it did leave me feeling rather unimpressed by Jamie's performance. Plus, even after the sound check, the levels where shocking. The vocals were too low and too compressed.

it shoudl have been done hours beforehand

someone fucked up in that situation

either jamie was very late, his band was late, the sound engineer wasn't there or able to do soundcheck early, the promoters fucked up, the club weren't ready...

as i said, sounds like something went very wrong there

think maybe it depended on where you were stood? I was right at the front and couldn't hear the soundcheck going on at all.

what bothered me was all the jamie woon fangirls pushing to the front and standing dead still just as pangaea dropped hex and way mi defend, was trying to skank my arse off but couldn't because they were just in the way, stood like statues.

pissed off to the idle hands room after that, which was ROCKIN'. Anyone know the DJ who was on before Pev? He was seriously good.

I was in front to the right. In front of the right sub. I could definately hear it. Place was rammed too which added to my frustration. I like to see loads of people around I really do but this place was heaving. Loads of hipster teenagers too which frustrated me. I'm sounding like I though it was a shit night, music was fucking amazing so no problems really. Pearson sound's set was perfect
