So Serato Failed Me Tonight..

Fuck knows why I almost had to bail on my first ever set.
In the end I had to do it hand held which was fucking silly hard and so my mix suffered.
Basically i hooked it all up and got one turntable running backwards? and the other was just going through my serato menus?
I pulled it all apart and started again but it just wasnt having it? Any ideas?

Had the same thing with Traktor last night, I let it run digital for a few secs and then had the turntable take over again.. worked.
Wasn't the other turntable in some kind of browsing mode? Like the inner part of the traktor vinyls do?

Lesson learnt - bring a bit of backup music on another format.
Before CDJs became as widespread as they are now (and I was an early embracer of them), I'd always carry with me 10-15 vinyls just in case the venues kit wasn't up to spec in case I needed to improvise.

yeh did exactly this. browse mode.
But yeh lesson learn definitely. Crowd was dead (being a sunday) so the hand held wasnt a bad option in the end

I've had that problem with Serato before, can't remember what it was but it was dead simple. Think it was something to do with getting my red and white RCA leads the wrong way round. When I play out, I would NEVER go without my bag of vinyl, I run a little bit of a temperamental laptop and the last thing you ever want to do is be stranded mid-set with nothing playing. Never trust technology, it can always go wrong!
ps. If you want a Serato fail, last time I played out, a different DJ up after me dropped dropped a new track on the wrong deck while it was playing out. #cringe.

A deck going backwards means the left and right stereo inputs from the decks are the wrong way round. Not sure about the menu's issue. Should make sure you have some vinyl & cds with you as a backup

Pretty sure its two of the rcas the wrong way round as b- frank said. The other one was scrolling through tracks because it was on the track select part of the vinyl. You can use it so u dont need to touch the computer. If you look in the setup menu when u set up there are different things to look for in the spectral view to let you know whats going on. i have a picture of the troubleshooting page from the serato website on my computrer so u can diagnose problems easily

Although serato can be tempermental (tho it's always been rock solid for me on some shocking setups), this is a 5 second fix and a read of the problem/troubleshooting section of the manual would actually tell you this as well.

I must of just got it wrong twice then obviously. I did pull it all apart and start the setup again but i got the same result.
Good to know what the issue was tho and cheers peoples

Excuse the language but Serato is a c*nt to have to set up. If you do that right I've never had any problems what so ever with it. Same way as anything though, if you wire up your mixer and decks wrong they won't work either. Just a bitch if you turn up on a night and want to install it.

Do clubs not have like, in built serato these days and DJ's just bring their music on a usb? Seems a logical thing to do considering how many use it now. That may not be how it works though, I'm not a user.

I've seen a couple venues with it (though i must admit i don't really look out for it unless im playing). I've had to use my own Serato in the past. If I had the cash and wasn't so attached to vinyl cd's solve just about all of lifes problems.

I wasnt hating or anything, i dont even DJ.
Ive just played at enough places where you set up half an hour before, 'live on stage'

, in the dark and it seems that a tiny thing like that which can cause your decks to run backwards (

again) seems a bit of a design issue!

So glad I have to play first slot on my first 'big event' (+300 visitors), I'll have time to hook all my gear up. + first slot is not even early 00:00 - 01:00
