It takes WAYYYY more than just making a skrillex sounding bass to sound like skrillex. The structure of his basslines takes hours and most people who want to sound like skrillex(mostly beginners) wouldn't have the patients to come up with a skrillex bassline. His music has so much chopping and resampling, it's ridiculous.

SO whats your point. i dont belive i made a tutorial on skrillex's bassline structure. And this video is really more about just how incredible a synth fm8 is and how with soly fm8 you can create some huge sounds. im not over here trying to verbally suck skrillex's dick but let me know what im missing

I really have to disagree. I think it's all about his sound design and production and not his structure or songwriting. I did take apart a couple of his songs and cover them entirely with chiptune instruments. If you don't believe me, check out me sc or try it yourself. His song structure is particularly generic. His songwriting, though commendable, is pretty standard in the mainstream dance community. I'm not knocking him in the least, regardless of what some others think I like his music. But just throwing it out there, without his high caliber production and good sound design, his basslines are rather bland.

Edit: almost forgot to mention the chiptune cover took me less than 4 hours.... Really not that bad.

I didn't say the entire song structure. I'm just saying his music isn't just playing a note and modulating it.

as it is a skrillex youtube tutorial i didnt expect much, but your sounds are really good. nice job there.
sadly it's less of an actual tutorial but more showing off, with an implied note that i can give you money to actually get information about what you did with the fx-instances of fm8 for example.

its probably a lot of info for just one video and maybe youre planning to showcase that in a follow-up but until then i stand by my point: good job with the sound design, but it's not really a tutorial.

oh you are totally right i should have wrote this is a follow up to questions i have been getting on soundcloud. I go over all the the basics of the synth on there and go over more of the power of fm8 in the video. i made 2 other videos more in-depth that are up privately for the time being but ill post up all the info on that soon. ANd really showing off? maybe but it started off as a joke track i posted on soundcloud called "Willy Whompa's FM8 Skrillex bass cause i want to fit in" I got close to 100 messages from kids asking how i did it overnight, so i decided to give a little foresight. Hopefully inspire some to experiment with fm8 and learn there is no secret resampling method. You can make really great sounding basses and what not with the bare minimum.

yeah thats what i thought as well. Still tho there is beast sounds in it! Maybe you could go more in depth with what you actually do in fm8 next time. For a beginner in using fm8 I didn't really understand the routing back into itself business.

don't worry, "showing off" was meant more like your sounds are good enough to justify showing off ;)
just gave fm8 as an fx unit a try, not really feeling the talk-wah though its better than most formant filters.
looking forward to the other 2 vids!

Nice sounding video. Would be cool to see you break down your distortion rack showing the kind of settings you're using.. or even screen shots ;)

I had a watch of your video and it gave me a few ideas.. would love a little feedback on this sound, i think maybe it needs a little beefing up in the mid - low bass so I might frequency split it and resample the mids to be a little grittier and then add some extra width to the highs.

Would love any feedback.

this is the beginning tutorial for my skrillex esc bass, I say every setting for all you who complained on the last one. I figured you could have just paused the video and used it like a screen shot but people seemed to have a problem. I will up 2 other videos in the next days going over the filtering and distortions chain. if you have specific questions let me know.
