Probably some other next post about this somewhere, of what tune got you into Dubstep...

For me personally, I didn't get INTO dubstep, it was a natural progression from the darker side of garage.

So for me... Groove Chronicles - Black Puppet, on the flipside of 1999. Both heavy tracks - or even Groove Chronicles - Stone cold.

Shit... I just remembered, Jay Da Flex - When I fall in love... this still gets dropped in sets now!

What bout you 'orrible lot?

excision darkside dubstep. i was getting stoned round a mates house when he stuck it on. nearly shat myself with excitement. first tune would have to be kode9 - 9 samurai.

Haha!! I remember the first time I heard Rubber Chicken too!! Was with my mate driving down Edgware Road, going to play poker at the Vic, and I took home a big win after a marathon 8 hr game, and I had it on repeat in my head!

Love how music reminds you of certain times init!

Yeah was gonna say, this question gets asked on the forum a lot but for me it wasn't one tune in particular, natural progression as was into jungle, techno and garage a since as long as I can remember and at the start its not like there was one sudden moment that dubstep born..... although I remember listening to rinse one night and it was a deeper sounding grime set without any MCs, went out of my way to try and track down that sort of stuff. Probably DJ Wonder 'what' was perhaps the first record I bought that you'd call dubstep rather than dark garage or a grime instrumental, Toasty 'the knowledge' was the one that got me a bit obsessed with the sound!

first dubstep track i heard would probably be DZ - Down or skream's essential mix

Zinc was doing some D&B podcasts years ago and played midnight request line in one of them - said to check out this new dubstep thing. So i did.

Has to be Goat Stare for me. First time I heard that tune, the sample in the intro, then the drop....I wish I could relive that.

Zinc's a badman, before Dubstep properly hit I was a massive fan of all the breaksy beats he was doing as Jammin, or the promo's that went out with the different Nikes on, TN's, Shox, etc...

Rubber chicken was one of the first dubstep tracks i loved.
that wobble still knocks me back each time i listen it. and Big Headed Slags by Caspa.
i seriously think these tracks need a revival!!! most people only seen to remember the old dmz stuff.
caspa's back catalogue is underrated IMO. For The Kids too. badmaaaan

i was just checking out this "new sound" in 05 when it was getting just a tiny lil buzz on forums, i just wanted to know what it was so i could not like it, like every other genre besides dnb. But i came to find every few songs on some of the mixes were really good but surounded by wobbly stuff i wanst really feeling. Eventually i heard a tune with some nice mids and amen and i had to know what it was, did some rooting around and found it to be Skream-Lightning. It really opened my eyes to what the genre could but not nessecarily what it was so i just did more and more listening and by late 06 i was making it and becoming deeper and deeper in love with it. Still 100% love dnb but dubstep is definitly a focus.

Caspa's "Custard Chucker". Heard it and was just like and never went back

First I was shown was Burial...but then I got the Benga Essential Mix and a Benga & N-Type session from 2007...Benga did it for me.

I did a set a month or so back and played like 6 benga tunes in a row. 26 Basslines, Night, The Cut, Pleasure, One Million. Everything from that Diary Afro era was gold to me. Invasion EP is essential, but too many people I know diss on the Diary stuff claiming Invasion is better. Sif.
