Living with tunes.

I mean, I'm sure we all tend to create some tunes and times between starting the song and finishing the song vary. I sometimes obsessively listen to the things I've made over and over again trying to decide if they're good or not, if they're done or not.
How long do you guys live with tunes? How do you know when they're done?

you just know when it's done.. i find if a tune takes too long or i dont come back to it alot then its not worth bothering with.

true. you can always learn more and improve. sometimes you just have to accept that you need to finish something. i never find the stuff i do in any way "perfect". i guess that would be a terrible feeling as i wouldn't want to go on if i reached that point, but i'm absolutely positive that this point will never come. =)

No doubt. I love starting a track, abandoning it, doing some other stuff for awhile, then coming back to the track. Usually I come up with some better ideas.

This is an interesting post. I tend to still listen to older tracks I've made to check if I still think there good and also to try and see the progression and changes towards the more recent material. It's fun sometimes but also a little bit obsessive and over analytical.

Cool thread, I just think of the vibes that I want the track to achieve, look back at the track. If I'm feeling it, then it's done. Otherwise, leave for a week, rinse and repeat.

Yes, I do that as well. It's actually cool when you think that your first track sounds like garbage, because it means you have improved pretty much.

You just keep working until you think if you add anymore it'll spoil it.

I tend to listen to my older stuf aswell.
One thing i noticed, even though i think i've improved production-wise, some of.my new stuff just feels like it lacks its soul and spotaneousity compared to the old tunes.. Have you experienced something like this?

Totally; I have only got back to the point where I can make something with the same feeling and ideas as my older stuff but with the polishedness of my stuff after it.
I think you just gotta keep writing till you take a full circle again with added techniques/knowledge.

Yeah. With me it's definitely a two-fold thing. I mean, I'm always geting better production-wise. Just going back and listening to tracks from 3 months ago compared to now is always astounding. But, I'm also always getting better musically, hearing things more coherently, getting better at parsing song structure, when to place elements. That makes it really cool to go back to old stuff and say, "Yeah, I could do this here and that will boost this song %100. It's a good place to be.

Hi, i just once made a really dark hiphop beat that sounds like dubstep but i think its none of it at all ^^...
but what i want to say is, that i got the feeling that producing, dubstep especially, is like drawing a graffiti.
the dubstep sound is 3D

What i want to say is that its a really potential kind of art and you have to chill with it until your really down with it or until it bangs u away...
You got to look at it from different points of view and consider it in different kinds of mood so that it can be perfect
you got to feel it <3
always remember its art it lives from the mental freedom, from creativity and visions and ideas

Like i said im no professional, but thats how i imagine
