Any tech tips for a noob MC?

Hello everyone!

Basically today my role has switched and instead of being behind the decks I'm going to be in front of them holding a mic. The only thing is I don't know anything about MCing what so ever.
My aim tonight is simply to do something similar to Toast or Darkside and just say the odd thing to the crowd to get them going rather than spit bars bars of pure fiyah!
What I want to know is if there is anything technical I should know before I go dancing about at the front of the club. By this I mean how can I avoid mic feedback? Should I turn the mic off? Should I hold it close or far from my mouth etc? I'm sure some of you will read this and think most of it is common sense but as a DJ i know how annoying MCs can be when they don't have a clue what they are doing and I dont want to be that guy!

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!
Native

i like a good hype man, but there aren't very many times in dubstep where I am thinking, "I wish someone was talking right now"

Haha you know exactly what i'm talking about - My aim is simply to be a toaster tonight, but what do people like to hear? I personally think toast is a great host but crazy d is absolutely shit. Currently trying to assess what makes the difference and I'm at no stupid bars, no stupid shouting, no singing, but possibly some stupid dance moves tho.

Put the mic through the PA, not the mixer, if possible.

You'll get feedback if the mic's too loud, or if you put the mic in front of the speakers, or the monitors. i.e. in a position where the sound coming out of the speakers is going back into the mic.

don't chat all over the drop, say some funny stuff, do some funny dancing, don't call for rewinds unless the crowd REAALLY want it!

Crowd surfing always goes down a treat in the dance.

Shout 'SELEKTA' after every drop as well.
