MPK 49 or Axiom 49 ?

Hey guys

Im looking at ordering a new keyboard today, 49 key

These two seem the best options for the money. I am using logic and want the best integration with my DAW and ease of setup and quality (im guessing this will be faders, keys and dials for adjusting parameters)

Anything else i should look out for with them?

I've played both and bought an MPK 49 just because it feels better to play. The MPC style pads are better on the MPK than the Axiom aswell, even though I never really use them no matter what keyboard. They're both good, but MPK is just that bit better, to me personally

definitely mpk. it's not that m-audio is terrible for midi controllers, just the mpk pads will be a lot better. i've heard the velocity sensitivity on the MPK registers more values than the axiom as well.

anyone use them with logic? ive heard of mapping issues with logic for the mpk compared to plug n play on the axiom

Hmm I am quite curious myself, as I am sort of torn between those two, but I already have 16 nice pads so no need for them really, which one would you go for? Or any other suggestions?

um, if you've got good pads already... then i would just look on craigslist for a cheap midi keyboard. if you're not a pianist, it won't matter that much what you get - as long as it works. would just recommend anything 49 keys or more.

got myself a m-audio keystation (61) for 50$ on craigslist. only has a mod and pitch wheel (and volume), but that's all i really needed. especially since i do most of my automations within my daw, instead mapping them out and doing it by hand.

The MPK has way more features than the Axiom. More pads, has an apreggiator and just looks cooler. (The mod wheel and pitch bend light up orange... fucking cool) And the MPK just all around feels studier stronger and more reliable. I say MPK all the way. (It even rhymes so it must be true)

Also I've owned and used both. My axiom broke in like 14 months...

i use MPK25 with logic. No issues at all. I map everything manually. I don't know if there is a way to get the sort of plug and play capability you would get with the axiom pro. ANd the pads are shit. U have to really bang em and shit just fucks up! U can fix it with some electricians tape under the pads but opening it up and modifying it will void ur warrantee. And i have a feeling the mph 49 still only has 12 pads. Thats not how pads should be laid out.

I use my MPK with logic and it works just fine :) I just think Akai in general makes better shit imo

The pads do suck though I agree, however I don't even use midi drums anymore... i just drag my samples right into the project straight as audio and work on them from there.

any issues with mapping it? or did it work as soon as it was plugged in? (transport controls and sliders etc)

It doesn't map itself out of the box. You have to assign everything, or at least I did. The basic things like the mod wheel etc works straight out no problems but all the various sliders and knobs need assigning from what I remember (was about a year ago) but thats all easy to do etc.
