Couple of Reaper questions

Just a couple of questions from a recent Reaper convert :h:

I'm just trying to figure out the time stretching capabilities of it, and after a bit of twiddling and menu scouring I managed to find out how to stretch audio to fit to the project tempo by changing the Timebase to "Beats" in the project settings.

I noticed that there are quite a few algorithms within the clip settings themselves for time-stretching, and wondered which ones people thought were best for processing different types of audio? For example which is best for slowing things down? Which is best for drums? etc.

Also, how do I set up a channel to resample an instrument? I thought I'd figured it out in the I/O section, by creating a new track and setting the relevant sends/recieves. I seem to be getting audio through the channel, but as soon as I hit record it goes silent and I end up recording a blank track. Meh?

I'm probably missing something simple... it feels weird being a DAW noob again.

Oh, and I'm just trying out the dynamic splitting... Is that for timestretching too? It makes chopping breaks a breeze though!

Edit:

Ah man, I have another question.

I managed to time stretch my beat so it was in time with the project tempo, but then when I bring in a new clip it doesn't match up with the project at all, unless I change the project tempo to match the new loop's original tempo before importing it.

Otherwise, even when I change it's setting in the item settings menu, it just stays the same tempo, but when I speed up/slow down the project it changes accordingly. So it seems to think it's in time, but it isn't?

I'm getting quite confused here.

So to sum up: I have a sample that is 94bpm, I want it to be 134. And I have another sample that is 175bpm, and I want it to be 134.

as for time stretching, just hold alt and go to the edge of a file and drag it. it will try to automatically conform your file to your set tempo. when you import it it should have an option in the media explorer (control alt x) to do a tempo match too. the different time stretch algorithms, i've never dealt with those.

not sure you you mean with the dynamic splitting, you can use it on anything time stretched or not

i never actually record anything so i dunno about the routing issue. i'll try to answer it later when im less hung over pehaps

Aha! Excellent, cheers dude.

I'm literally in the process of figuring out the dynamic splitting. It seems like a very powerful tool to be fair, once I figure it out.

Also be sure to use Elastique pro algorithm for vocals n what not.
Far better algorithm, less stretching artifacts.

for the resampling issue there are several possibilities:
right-click on the midi item and choose: apply fx as new take.
right click on the track and use record to stems
or add a new track use the io button to get a send from you vst track and select "record output to stereo" on your new channel, arm the track for recording, hit record and play.

Safe, nice one man. The last one worked :D
