Yeah I think it's just because we actually have some really decent bands that are popular here but never get to take off anywhere else in the world, so we (especially in Alberta) get associated with these clowns . Most obvious example of that is The Tragically Hip, although there's a ton of other great bands too (Wintersleep, Stars, New Pornographers, etc.)
