Couple of monitor questions

hey guys
Couple of question i had about monitors quickly:
1. What are the best monitors to go for in an untreated room. I use krk rokit 5's for djing but for production i wanted another set of better ones, i can get genelec cheap but dont know if its worth spending that kind of money without sound treatment.
2. Are there any headphones that can be used reliably for production? I current again use my DJing Senn HD-25's which do an okish job but i wanted a pair i can use all the time as a lot of the time i can use monitors and have to use headphones and so wanted a pair that can recreate the sound as well.
Dont really have a price limit at the moment its just what i think i can justify on them really.
Cheers for any help !

Very curious about the headphones as well. Plenty of time that monitor's can't be used for me...
Been looking at the HD-600's, they're about 200+

open back are ideal for production, as long as you're not using them when recording stuff

They are probably ok for the money but looking at the freq range graphs there are better ones to go for.

Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros are great for producing on. They're closed back but very comfortable and the sound quality is fantastic.

To be honest i've never used the premium version - but a mate of mine has just got them so i'll let ya know. I've been using the DT 770s for a good 5 years and never looked back. Great for DJing too when you can't hear shit!

yea i have senn hd25s for dj'ing due to greater bass for beat matching but those DT770s look awesome, you have the 80ohm version?

I've got the 250 ohm ones - the 80 ohm version give you more bass, but I found that the it was a bit too overpowering in them compared to the 250 ohms. The 250 ohms sound more balanced which I thought was better for producing on.

Thing is, if you have a lot of money then you'll be better off investing it in even better monitors. That's what I would do anyways

Disagree completely, Krk's are fine. If your tracks get a lot of exposure it's worth it to get them
mastered professionally, creating a decent mixdown for a mastering engineer can easily be done
on those rp5's.
