Charity Dubstep

Hi!
I'm living in Belgium and we got this annual thing coming up 'Music For Life'.
It's like 3 people locking themselves up in a glass house while broadcasting on one of the biggest radiostations here in Belgium.
They raise in money to help all kinds of issues that is making life harder for the people in Africa etc.
This year it's about diarrhea, one of the biggest causes of children death in Africa.
Alot of people do some music related (and none music related) things to help raise money for them.
Now my question is:
I want to start something up called 'Dubstep For Life' or something along those lines and I'm wondering how I should approach this.
Could I try to have people send me some tracks so I could try to sell them (with a pay how much you want thing) or do any of you guys have a better idea for this?
Every penny that I receive will officially go to their 'Music For Life' campaign.
Thanks!

Sounds good, promotion is the key here I think, other projects such as dubstep cures cancer and dubstep for haiti (betamorph) have worked really well. Depending on when you want a track for I'd love to help

It's a great idea, and I would love to contribute, although nothing I do would be quite up to par.
If you got this going well, It would be great to see some of the bigger names here jumping on this...

Bump.
I'm looking for big names and less big names.
And some idea's on how I should work this out, how can I get people to pay what they want and then they can download all the tracks or should I let them choose which track they pay for instead of all the tracks?
Thanks for the positive feedback so far!

I suggest you use BandCamp for the Pay What You Want feature. I don't remeber if they take cuts, I think they do... if so, you can try and negotiate something with them too.

They do take cuts, I just can't remember exactly how. Basic A was telling me the other day. Something to do with currency conversion was it?

Anyone have any ideas what producers I should contact for this?
I want to raise a significant amount but I also want to use some tracks from DSF on it aswell.

Musicians you like would be a great starting point.

Ye, I love the sounds of Kaiori Breathe but I would also want 1 or 2 REALLY big names.
Skream or even Benga. Thought about contacting the lads of GetDarker as well, Distance, Sleeper etc...
Btw, is this topic on the right place actually?

Well this doesn't have much to do with production, but at the same time your looking to talk to the producers. I'd say yeah, this is the best place for the thread...

I would contact Basic A. One of the nicest guys around, loves music, and there might be someway he could help. Even if just offering you some suggestions on artists. Worth a shot anyway. If your looking to contact the big names around the forum, draw up a base plan first, you want to be able to explain to them exactly what you want to do, and how your going to do it. Basic A has experience with Bandcamp, he runs an imprint called Cosmology, so if you have any questions regarding that system, you could ask him.
Would offer some artists names, but don't honestly have the time right now. I'll revisit this thread when I'm home from work.
One thing I would say is not to limit the genre to just Dubstep. There are some incredible producers around here doing Ambient/IDM/Garage/HipHop/All sorts...

Thanks mate, going to contact Basic A tonight to try and get a decent plan.
I'm also horrible at marketing so I need to have a plan how I can approach alot of people to buy this little 'release' and support the charity.

If you go hard at it, it could work. And as much as it seems, this community isn't full of tnucs. As long as it's done properly, people will support it. Try and promote this as far and wide as you can. Like I said, don't stick to JUST dubstep unless you really want to. If you have other genres, you could hit up the likes of DOA aswell to get support from this.
Either way, even if it's just dsf members, still hit up DOA / other forums to get support / get the word out.

If your looking for big names, promotion is the key, just spread it around social network sites and forums, maybe a competition to get on the charity release could be an idea?

Hold on to it mate!
I'm trying hard to get in touch with the right people and to set this up.
However, do not get your hopes up, I'm not promising 210390 downloads or anything but it would be sweet to see it all go to the charity.
I am also going to list all the names that worked on this when I deposit the money to 'Life Is Music'.
Chances are they will talk about it on air (hopefully).
