100 BPM (KOAN Sound, Reso) bassline?

Hey everyone(: I've been working on a slow dubstep track with a lot of funk and hip hop elements, such as KOAN Sound does in a lot of their tracks. I've had a lot of ideas go through my head, but I can't really think of what kind of baseline to make for this song. I don't want anything too complextro crazy, maybe stick to a few sounds. I didn't want to use the reese bass, because then I would just look like a total KOAN Sound rip-off. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Ben

im quite a big fan of old skool hip hop, id say make the beat and everything sound all good first. make it funky and swingy then just experiment once you got the flavour of the track going. it totally just depends on the vibe of your song id say, try to see what works and what doesnt work :W:

The distinctive sound you hear is BECAUSE of the reese bass... just saying. That and the rhythmic style of their tracks.

Agreed, The "koan sound" Is pretty much just tasteful reesed out glitch hop.
It might be worth while to check out some Flying lotus, Tokimonsta, J-dilla, or Pantyraid.
Other than that Baseline wise... Maybe some beef'd up squares or less processed reeces.
Could always just write melody and stick to a interesting sine bassline.
Get creative?

I have started something in the way of KOAN Sound but am definitely finding it difficult to get their grooooove!

Ignore the intro as it started off as a dark dubstep tune - Drop at 1min 09:

Laying down filtered reeses isn't ripping off KOAN sound because KOAN sound are by no means the originators of filtered reeses. I've been working on something pretty similar but properly tried to put a funky spin on it. It is quite reese orientated with a lot of other stuff going on. Everyone takes their inspiration from somebody.

Just done finishing up a koan style tune and I think I've pretty nailed the bassline, however that funkyness and groove they have with their beats is a hard feat to achieve in logic :(. When i get some time tomorrow I'll post a clip of the tune and how I made the bass :)
