All that nonsense about Grammy's in 'that' other thread reminded me of far more important news in the award ceremony world that I heard the other day. If you saw his performance in 2010 and especially 2011 then you'll be delighted to hear of his return to hosting these awards.

Iv'e gone off Gervais a little, I feel he is just solely relying on shock humor these days. That new show him and merchant wrote is Extras laughing at Dwarfs.

To an extent I agree with you. I certainly know that when I saw him live and then Eddie Izzard a week later there was no comparison. But if you youtube some of the footage of last year's ceremony it really is priceless because his subjects are all jumped up Hollywood types who think they're on untouchable pedestals. Brought a few people back to earth I think.

I have to say Gervais is definitely in US mode, And I just don't like seeing him on screen anymore since he lost all that weight, but still one of the funniest comedy writers.

I totally know what you mean haha, He nails those horrible moments when a word slips, or you try to wriggle out of an already big hole etc......They are so hard to watch sometimes but It gets me everytime

For me the UK version of The Office will always be superior. But I like awkward comedy and black comedy I guess, that's why I like that whole Chris Morris/Armando Ianucci side of things. British comedy is generally a bit darker than American comedy which is one reason why I gravitate towards it. Though there's been some classics from across the pond.

P.S. And yes all his Hollywood films suck.

He was SLIGHTLY amusing as the owner of the museum in that epic movie Night at the museum or whatever that shitstorm was called but I didn't even bother watching Cemetry Junction or that other shit looking film

I never found Ricky Gervais funny. His awkward moments were poorly done, and now he is a washup. He does fuck all in that Idiot Abroad, but he gets majority of the credit

And anyway, no TV show is more awkward that Curb Your Enthusiasm.

i'm gonna tune in just for ricky, his performance last year was incredible, i was dying- especially that bit with mel gibson

hes definitely in US mode, and his movies over there aren't that great..his standup is alright..but his tv shows are hands down some of the funniest i've seen.

Curbed is fantastic, Ill give you that. Larry David also one of Ricky's biggest influences which I think shows.

Ricky gets the credit for things like Idiot Abroad because how could you give karl credit? He's just a guinea pig for that show and it was Ricky that realised what a tit he was back in 2000 era

I do agree he's certainly not at his best anymore although IMO washup is hyperbole

Haha thats fair enough. I can see why people don't like him, I loved Animals and Politics though, steadily downhill on his own since then and to be fair, He's only been reaaally good when he's with Stephen Merchant anyways

Think I saw it on the news some time ago, like how he sticks with his own sense of humor at such a 'prestigious' event.

i still like ricky. the office remains the greatest comedy programme imo. he has awkward down to a tee in everything he does. + i quite liked the invention of lying and ghost town. i don't know if he wrote them but they were quite clever. i also like how stephen merchant is now, i suppose, basking in rickys reflected glory.

They started out on Xfm together, Gervais probably owes just as more to Merchant, Gervais just wanted to be on TV more, go download Channel 4's 'The Ricky Gervais Show', not the animated podcast but the (pre-Office/post-11 O'Clock) chat show type one and you will see Merchant on there, plus his stand-up is alot funnier than Gervais's most recent, which was just formulated gash IMO.

he is so shit now, used to love him back in his office days.
