So yeah, you're probably thinking- no Skream, no DMZ, 8 tracks in 40mins, no way you're going to waste bandwidth right? If so, you're probably right- this mix is probably not for you. It is how I've been turning Hippies at Outdoor (ie. Outback) Doofs here onto Dubstep, by tapping into a sound close to the Psychedelic Dub they're familiar with by producers like Shpongle, Shulman & Tripswitch, and mixing in some other trippy bits as well with effects. Thanks to all the artists featured for their contributions, hope I've done your outstanding works the justice they deserve & that you'll find new audiences for them as a result?

Very cool and pretty unique compared to most of the other mixes I've heard.

Thanks for the positive feedback! wasn't sure if it was worth posting up at all tbh, since it's pretty much against the grain of the current fashion in Dubstep mixes. But then, everyone's always on about how Dubstep requires no definition right? And I selected the tracks based on their musical composition & ability to sustain that through their entire lengths, by the variations/movements and/or solid grooves they possessed. This mix is actually abbreviated down from 70+ mins- I didn't want to show all my cards just yet

On the download now. Im doing the same myself playing a few outdoor events with some chill djs and a few Goa/Psy djs, seems to flow quite well with that crowd along with the Jungle/DnB crowd as well. Ive really been diggin mixes that incorporate psychedelic dub (mad professor etc.) with dubstep and dub. My old Planet Dub tripple Lp from planet dog will never leave the crate.

P.S. Last time I had the pleasure of playing outdoor to a group of hippies drinking shroom Tea. Opened a few minds with the big basslines. Oh and the new Gravious mix on shrooms made my fucking jaw drop, talk about 3D sound.

"Psychedelic" is always going to be a subjective term, but there's quite a few sounds that are common in Psy Trance & Psy Dub in these tracks. Glad you liked it though!

The angle I'd eventually like to push Dubstep in is approaching something sounding akin to Shpongle's last CD Nothing Lasts... But Nothing is Lost- 20 tracks in 67mins of fluent but diverse & complex musical, trippy bass business?

There's nowt wrong with omitting classics from yr mix as long as it's still good!

I heard some terrible dubstep bitten psy-trance whilst working at the hippy 'Sunrise' festival this year. It actually sounded alright at first as a nice contrast to the constant bs they were playing before it but compared to actual dubstep it was proper lame - just too whimpy / fluffy! One track even had a melody in it directly ripped from a burial track.

Sounds like you're describing Psy Dub there? Certainly it's not as ballsy with the bass weight or riffs as Dubstep, but as I'm attempting to illustrate with this mix, there are some similarities in the sound through which you can potentially reach a new audience?

YOU ALL NEED TO CHECK OUT SHPONGLE. It's the first electronic music group I ever listened to. Psychedelic downtempo with lots of live instruments, and this time the psychedelia means something more than a Terence McKenna sample. Same goes for Hallucinogens (Simon Posford, ½ of Shpongle) "In Dub"-album. All I'm saying is that it only took an intro of a single song, "Around the world in a tea daze", and I forgot about all the prejudices I ever had about instrumental music.

The In Dub album is a collection of Hallucinogen remixes by OTT, another leading light of the Psychedelic Dub movement. I'm not as big a fan of his work as I am Shulman's or Tripswitch, though.

Funny you should mention Around the World in A Tea Daze, because that's what this mix originally ended with I might think about uping the full mix with the Psy Dub tracks back in at some point.....
