This is the thread announcing that the community Youtube channel, Sub Culture, is almost fully up and running. We just need a couple more things done and it will be ready to go.

This thread is basically the same as the Track Submissions thread, except this time we're asking for tutorials. These tutorials can be anything covering production, whether it be how to make a killer bass or how to compress drums or how to use a DAW or whatever else.

Requirements For Your Tutorial:

• Must not be recorded with a toaster/cell phone.
  
  Must have audio.
  
  Must not already be uploaded to anywhere else.
  
  Must have you talking over it and explaining it (NO NOTEPAD TUTORIALS).

How To Submit Your Tutorial:



ACCEPTABLE FILE FORMATS ARE .AVI, .MOV, .MPEG, and .WMV.

I understand that tutorials will take a little longer to get than tracks. It's ok, just take your time if you need to.

I don't think you've thought this through completely.

A raw HD video file without any post editing or down sampling is like 1-2gb for about 5-8 minutes. You are really going to want people to upload that?

Are we supposed to edit it or are you? What about quality, dimensions, lay out of tutorial.. Do you want auto panning or a full screen? For the sake of continuity you should research into this more or get someone to do a tutorial on how to record it in the way you want.

It doesn't matter to me if it's Auto-Panning or Full Screen, and I said the quality up in the OP, 720P.

Yeah I do agree we need a better plan for the uploading, I just have no idea how we should go about this. That was the only idea I could think of.

Any ideas?

For recording, its pretty much at your discretion. It doesnt matter if you pan, zoom, full screen whatever it doesn't matter. I will be doing the editing and conforming all the videos into the proper format for our tutorials. Quality was stated in the OP of at least 720p. Basically just make a tutorial however you damn well please as long as its not blurry and not a notepad tutorial. We need to hear you talk.

If we have to deal with 1-2GB uploads and downloads we will, however I agree that there must be some alternative way to get these videos to us. Anyone with any ideas please speak up!

For large files like that, the only thing I can think of is dropbox.. You can spam-invite yourself (and make multiple accounts) to give yourself loads of added bandwidth.

Once you drag the file out of your dropbox folder, it will take it off the server and have it just on your hard drive.. It can handle any size (well, if you account has enough space).


Its either that or Jsplitting a rar and uploading them in 200/500mb chunks.

We have a dropbox running right now, the thing is we would have to link the drop box to like every single contributor which could be potentially tedious/difficult to coordinate? Or am I mistaken?

Ugggghhhhhhhh this is a tough one, we need to think this out and discuss a plan. I'm talking to everyone wanting to contribute.

The best suggestion I can come up with for fear of having to link 100 people to one massive drop box folder, would be to set up a small team of 5-8 or so people willing to be regular contributors of tutorials. We will create a drop box for that group and the videos would be shared that way between the group.

Ideas?

Dang it seems like you two are running it all. Anything I can do? Btw we can get videos over aim file transfer. Would take ages though

Well you're usually off doing something or other so that's why. We can't be waitin ya know.

I dislike the requirement of 720p :/

Most people are going to be recording with Camstudio or Hypercam, you can't record in HD with those, as far as I know.. But when the file is sent to you guys, the editor can then in his editing software, export it as a 720p HD file (I do this all the time with Sony Vegas) ..

HD Files are fucking huge by the way, it'd take a good amount of time to upload those, and even more time to send through AIM.. Not sure about Dropbox, but I assume the same applies..

Now if you're using Camtasia, the same thing still applies, you export the shit in HD, but it's still going to be a pretty large file.

I say you create a Template, for a specific editing software, send it off to the people who will be doing tutorials, and have them place their video inside of that template, but then that idea is also a fail, because not everyone will have the same editing software.

I can't see a lot of people taking the time to Record, export in HD somehow, and then uploading it for you guys.. Unless you get some really reliable people with some time on their hands.

I can do all of those things, but even I wouldn't do it, because it would be very time consuming.

Let the people send you standard quality shit, whatever comes out of their recorder, as long as it isn't recorded with a Cellular phone.

Or just only let people with Camtasia make tutorials for the channel, as it's not hard to export in HD with that.. But the file sizes can still be pretty big.

Raw HD, as Legend said, is HUGE.


Also, stop making threads and rushing into things, without a full idea.. Because right now you don't have it all figured out.

Ok, thanks Krugger, I've taken your advice and changed the HD requirement in the OP.

I respect that! Not trying to be hard or forceful.. I just don't want to see it fail, like others have before!

And remember, there's no rush, because if you rush, things fail.. Let people know you're accepting when you're actually prepared, then people can actually send stuff in that suits what you want!

And by the way that you put "Krugger" I'm assuming you think it is pronounced like MickRugger.. But it's M.K Rugger.

i assume you want them in hd so that the sound will be the best quality possible.
i'm not sure how much it would help but what about splitting the video/audio so that the video quality isn't hd but the sound is?

I will possibly be doing some beginning tutorials on making basic dubstep songs in ableton. I will probably start on them this weekend because thats when Im supposed to have my vocal mic back Anyway my videos would cover basic drum patterns, pads, leads, and of course basic wobbles. If you're interested send me a pm.
