I jus went and looked up this Scientology stuff and this is the intro to it on their website;

"The word Scientology literally means "the study of truth." It comes from the Latin word "scio" meaning "knowing in the fullest sense of the word" and the Greek word "logos" meaning "study of."

Scientology is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life. The Scientology religion comprises a body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these:

Man is an immortal, spiritual being. His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime. His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized — and those capabilities can be realized. He is able to not only solve his own problems, accomplish his goals and gain lasting happiness, but also achieve new, higher states of awareness and ability.

In Scientology no one is asked to accept anything as belief or on faith. That which is true for you is what you have observed to be true. An individual discovers for himself that Scientology works by personally applying its principles and observing or experiencing results.

Through Scientology, people all over the world are achieving the long-sought goal of true spiritual release and freedom".

I can't see anything totally unacceptable there personally, I know the reality behind these groups can be a bit shady.
Maybe Im missing somethin, dunno if there's some scandal around them.

But if people adhere to the philoso as it's written there then they wouldnt be able to get brainwashed, they'd be left to decide the truth for themselves, they'd be encouraged to not even believe the Scientology big-bods.

And how do we know it isnt us that's been brainwashed??

We've definitely been brainwashed into being pessimists about anything remotely new or different, like the white man when he first saw the natives, or pig-headed drum n bass heads when they heard dubstep was the new ting, or the anti-Einsteinian sentiment when the theory of relativity first popped up.

Always takes a generation or so to iron shit out

We need our comfort blankets to be snatched away from us sometimes jus to increase our scope of vision y'gets me fam- this is how Amen-Ra feels anyhow

Do the One

I love South Park anyway bare jokes

Looks like the entire episode has been removed from YouTube.

Here are some clips from the Scientology "In the Closet" episode:
http://www.youtube.com/results?search=s ... rch_videos

here is a good quick article on it with Isaac Hayes comments and Matt & Trey's reply:

"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins," the soul legend, Isaac Hayes said. "Religious beliefs are sacred to people and at all times should be respected and honored. As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices."

Evidently, the place for satire is when the show's talking about Christianity. Or Judaism. Or Buddhism. Or Islam. Or Hinduism. Or farting Canadians. Or, really, anything that's not Scientology, the religion Hayes belongs to that "South Park" recently ridiculed. Being the observant folks they are, Matt Stone and Trey Parker commented on this coincidence:

Past episodes of South Park have skewered Catholics, Jews and Mormons, among others. However, according to Stone, he and Parker "never heard a peep out of Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. "He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin," Stone told the Associated Press.

----------

Did any of you catch the episode just after all the controversy?

They sorted chef off proper. He was brainwashed by the scientologists into wanting to have sex with children. He wasn't in the episode obviously, so they dubbed his voice so that most of his dialogue consisited of "I wanna have sex with the children".
In the end, he is caught on fire, mauled by a lion and then a bear, and then impailed. And then of course, shits himself.
A must see for family and friends of all ages!!

Amen - dood are you serious?! That's the surface and granted it does sound fine. But i recon they'd put people off with a blurb that looks more like

"all of our beliefs are based on a terrible sci fi novel by some guy called L Ron Hubbard about interstellar war and aliens, and we're basically totally ready to get very rich from your generous donations"

however those are the facts. tack on some easy self-help nonsense and there you have it

Apologies

I came on here on a bit of a gung-ho one yesterday. I know nothin about this scientology stuff and didnt even bother to look into to it properly- safe for the extra info. Very stoopid of me to comment

Doomstep- all im sayin is that people are quick to denounce another man's beliefs but wouldnt dare questioning their own- y'dig?

When you believe in somethin but forget that you CHOSE to believe in that out of an infinite range of possibilities u can easily become brainwashed!! In fact u already are. U seen/known any folk like this??

Also brainwashing isn't just for cults to do. When doctors have 2 bring a brainwashed person back to "reality" what do u think they do?? They re-brainwash him!!! they call it re-programming i call it making a fully functional conventional robot. But maybe Im jus a cynic

Add-on

Ummmm,

Scientoligist philosophy is all well and good, very spiritual.

Its their actual beliefs that are fucked up!

They genuinely are supposed to believe all this shit about aliens and stuff, as a matter of religious belief!

Also, L Ron Hubbard once said "the quickest way to become a millionaire is to start your own religion".

Guess what? He's now a millionaire!!

And silent birth?? I'd have liked to see L Ron (pbuh) shit out a melon without making a sound....

Although, I suppose its not much stupider than some bits of all the 'proper' religions: e.g. the catholic church telling africans that aids can travel through condoms.

Either way, that SP episode is quality!!!!

This link has some interesting information on scientology slightley biased against it but entertaining at the same time:

http://www.rotten.com/library/religion/scientology/

Lets face it any religion which costs money to join and will supposedly end with you being able to astral project and turn invisible is a bit far fetched dont you agree??

They have just released the south park episode the return of chef where he is brainwashed by "a fruity club" that makes him want to sodomise small children its a pretty twisted episode but i guess they got back at him for quitting i found the torrent on isohunt.com it was removed from youtube, you can probably get it off limewire though its pretty funny.
