Massive is cool, but not a lot of people know the power of FM8.
So here's a little tutorial I cooked up for you guys.
For Clarity sake, my DAW is Ableton Live 8.
SOUNDS LIKE THIS:
Soundcloud
Let me know if this is useful and please post up anything you make with it. I'd love to see what you come up with! =D
I tweaked some settings in my ops and got it to sound like it's saying "Yea, Yea Buddy"
Also I noticed my example was sounding a little "bass-less" so here's example 2 with a screen shot of the new ops settings

nice tut bro, i hate using that wah whell though, it like sucks all the dynamics and oomph out of the sound, even when it 50/50 wet dry. I found a way to get even bigger "wahh, wooh, yoi, yee, yung, zhesh" (lol) noises using no effects at all just using FM8s operators, like i said in another thread a while back. Triangle waveforms are your best friend when going for the talking basses.

@rando
are you modulating operators against each other to create formant movement?
care to elaborate?

Yeah operators modulating eachother, getting the movement with the envelopes, when i get home ill try to DL a screen capture software so i can show you guys with audio.

it sounds more skrillexy when automating the operator volume levels and such on fm8 when doing these kind of sounds. also setting up 4 similar patches on each side of the XY morph and then slowly moving the morph position adds more movement to the sound!
for basses i prefer massive over fm8 and iv spent nearly 2 years using both lol.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, and yes! I noticed that when using the talk/wah wheel it kills the sound, so I'll work with the method Rando and Sunny Describe. I look forward to your video Rando!
@Sunny,
Yea, I love Massive. I just figured I'd get FM8 some spot light time. I will work on getting some interesting sounds in Massive (now that I'm on break) and I'll post up some of my findings.

yeah, but just giving out my settings for everyone to copy down would be the halfassed lazy way, rather than telling you how to do it.
Thats like accepting a picture of something, rather than taking the camera itself.
