A friend of mine is trying to tell me that the pokemon is not for children.
Dont get me wrong I respect the gam for what it is but you cant tell me that the main theme of the game isnt childish to say the least.
What do the ninjas think?

I think judging people on their hobbies is way more childish than playing pokemon

Yup. In my opinion, judgement causes insecure people not to enjoy life to its fullest.

It's actually a really deep game if you get into the strategies and mechanics behind it, moreso than most turn based strategy games. Download Pokemon Online and see how bad you get your ass kicked by someone who knows what they're doing.

I agree with others, I'm too old to be playing it, and to be fair haven't in years - but if offered, of course I'd play it. Even if it's aimed at kids, if it's good enough, it's good enough. As well there's the nostalgia excuse when picking up a handheld.

Sounds like an MMO that could actually be kinda fun. Has anyone played it? I'd download it but the site is down.
Also on the whole Childish Pokemon thing...
Do you know the reason why most christian families didn't let their kids play Pokemon? It wasn't the gambling, or monsters.
I'l give you a hint:

The game I was referring to isn't an MMO, it's basically a matchmaking client that lets you play with any team at lvl 100, spectate games, etc. Website's up for me right now http://pokemon-online.eu/

Nintendo should really develop a pokemon MMORPG. Loads of people would play it. I used to work on one back in the day doing maps and stuff but they got shut down eventually just like everyone else.

If it's ok to play Mario as an adult, it's ok to play Pokémon. I'm not into gaming anymore and I don't like the Pokémon movies/TV show, but as a game it's pretty awesome. You've really gotta use your brains to get good at it. And by that I don't just mean getting a strong starter Pokemon/Zapados/Nidoking and neglect the rest.
..And I can't believe I still know those Pokémon by name. o.O
