i remember hearing a while back that most dubstep songs are in two or three keys because those are the bass notes that hit the hardest on a typical club system, does anyone know what these notes are?

43hz is very resonant, and 35hz. Those are the lows that are good, idk about the mids like in the 70-80 hz range.

that chart is priceless for pitching your kick drum to be in tune with whatever key your playing in btw, but i do like the area around 45 (48.9994 to be exact ) that G is nice

F and D. Something about the note D I have no idea why but it's so fucking resonant in many places. Sing a low D (D2, 73hz) in the shower sometime and listen to the resonance it creates. Maybe it's just me but it's been like that in multiple showers.

I'd have to say E, F, and G are my favorite bass notes.

45hz is rougly an F. It would appear like 45hz on the spectrum unless you zoom in extremely tight. with that said, F subs always sound crisp from the get go. Don't be afriad to let your sub hit other notes though, varying between the sub being "attached" to your bassline and "underlying" will create a beautiful contrast. Thus, when you do hit the big notes you should have written your bass line to allow that F to ring out.

When I make a sub I just have it filling pretty much 30hz-60hz and sometimes 70-110, and then have it peaking at around 50, am I doing it wrong? I've never heard anyone talk about tuning kicks to a note O.o

yall ****** scared of 22 hz? thats where the audience heads start exploding from bass.

yeah the reason i was asking because i want to know what key to make my songs in because the if my key is Fm then i'm gonna be hitting that F a lot and i want whatever note im gravitating my bassline around to be a strong note

if you have a kick drum that has a precise area that it peaks at often times you can pitch bend that up and down to match an area around a note on that wikipedia chart (use your spectrum tool), it's not an exact science but often times it will help everything mesh together a little better

Bathrooms just make stuff sound good anyways because of the tiles and reverb!

I usually stick with C or E. C because its the lowest on my laptop keyboard(really wanting to get a midi controller soon!) and E because it's easier for me to play the E minor pentatonic scale and it goes with the E standard guitar tuning nicely. Anywhere from C to F is good for me though for the lowest bass notes.

I've found C to be extremely flat.

if you're looking for brostep basses, you'll probably want them to peak between 100-120. those are the club frequencies.

some of the recommendations for specific notes are just wrong. i.e - we could say a statement like 'most club systems don't go lower than an e1 42hz' could be true, and maybe recommend an e1 as the lowest note you'd like to play.

but to give a specific note that resonates in most clubs is impossible. every room sounds different, and each club probably has a different sound system. theres no way to tell what frequency would resonate unless you know all the details about that particular club.
