Ableton EQ

Is it just me or does anyone else not like the ableton eq. I feel like it never makes appropriate or sharp enough cuts. I find myself relying more on the auto filter to hi or lowpass. Just curious
Thanks!

I love the EQ in Ableton
I just don't like how you can't pull Ableton effects and instruments around the screen like you can with 3rd part plugins

I use EQ 8 to boost or cut, but an auto filter always to high pass. Sharper slope I'm assuming is why.

You can its somewhere in the settings. And I love the EQ. one of the stronger eq's I've used. OP make a bigger Q

I really like Ableton's EQ8...EQ3 not so much. It pretty much has everything I could need.

It does its job well enough for me

Don't forget to turn on "high quality" (right mouse click in the top bar) for more precise cutting

Oh wow just found the "high quality" mode...gonna see if this is better to me. I guess it could also be my room/monitors/ears...or a combination lol

You can make it sharper by raising the resonance. The default resonance is actually a little under 0, so raising it a little takes it to 0 and steepens the curve. You can also use multiple eq passes to make sharper curves if needs be. You can basically take the curve from 6db/octave (resonance all the way down) to about 24db/octave (resonance quite high). Just remember that sharp curves = synthetic sound, which may be what you want
I actually really like the ableton EQ, but it does have its limitations.

I feel you!
I recommend you check out some 3rd party plugins. I demoed and love both DMGaudio EQuality and Fabfilter Pro-Q for their transparency and easy handling. I recently purchased EQuality and I use it a lot myself. EQ8 colors the sound too much in my opinion and I sometimes get the feeling it is not very accurate.
When I cut frequencies EQ8 gives me the feeling that some of those frequencies are still bleeding through. Maybe it's not true and it's just the Spectrum analyzer that is off (when I put it behind the EQ8). For low and high pass filtering I think the EQ3 is a better choice if you don't want to invest in other plugins.

EQ8 is byfar my favorite EQ so far because of its built in mid/side processing

look in the bottom of the EQ8 where it says stereo, you can change change that to L/R (eq left and right channels seperately, or Mid/Side (eq the sides and middle of the sound seperately

Yeah, it's pretty weird they've hidden it over there, while everything else is so easily accessible and cleverly laid out
