Just got Massive. Would like a heightened idea on how to use it. Pretty much every single YouTube video is "how to make skrillex filthy talking bass in massive"

I just want to know how to use the tools it gives me!

So no specific sound, but can someone point me in the direction of a good comprehensive all around massive information video or article?

Creating basslines from drums??

I know this isn't a dubstep track but I have heard a few producers mention this technique, Swedish house Mafia also begins this track (around 22s) with a kick that they eventually use and turn into their bassline as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3MK5NVnevE

does anyone have any tips on how to go about doing this or can point me in the right direction? thanks in advance.

basically all they do is loop the sample faster and faster until it creates the note they want, the faster the loop the higher pitch the note , they did a masterclass which you can find on youtube but they say it took a longggggg time to get it to that stage

Guitar rig and lots of distortion. Experiment with other effects too ;)

Asked this in the December thread and didn't get a response :( .... really hoping to crack this one, so here goes another shot for this month:

All right.. the almost-bad-quality-reese-sounding bass in this interview. It comes in twice in the song; once at EXACTLY 1:54 and again at 2:01. It sounds like it's ultra distorted due to bad quality, but I actually REALLY like how that sounds. Anyone know how to achieve something that fat and "bad quality" but keep it controlled? Preferably with the tools available in Massive, FM8, and Logic Pro.

P.S... no idea how to embed. Sorry for the slight inconvenience.

Look up some videos about granular synthesis. It's somewhat relevant, and really cool.

Oh and, that bassline probably is not made from that shitty kick, you can actually hear it fade out and just hear a distorted saw wave going up in pitch while fading in. Sounds great though ;)

I am trying to make a kick like the one in this deadmau5 tune.
It sounds full and "warm."
Whenever I am eq'ing a kick to try to get it to sound like this (not clicky), it sounds dull.
I usually scoop out the mids, from like 300 hz, to 2-3k hz. I then layer it with an eq'd 808.
What do you guys think?

...sample it from his song....it's very easy in a song that has just the kick in the intro
