Seriously considering buying one of these.. anyone have any experience?

What are the faders like?? I want to use them for some DJ style beat cutting.. so the faders need to be comfortable to use, and durable...

Sorry, no experiance with Novation controllers. I used a couple from M-Audio, and would recommend.

The Novation SL series are quickly becoming the gold standard in MIDI controllers. I use a 61 SL at home and a Zero on the lappy, and I wouldn't think twice about buying another one if the need arose. I've never been disappointed by any Novation product.

That said, I don't think the faders would be very well suited for DJ-style cutting and fading. They're designed more for use in a mixdown.

Slow Bicycle - do you use your Zero for any live stuff? Or just in the studio?

The only thing making me hesitate, some people say the rotarys/buttons/faders are a bit small & fiddly.

I want something solid and tactile... how do you find the build quality?

Just in the studio. I think the build quality is high. Things are a little small, but nothing feels like it's going to break. The knobs are a good size, bigger than the knobs on a MS2k but a touch smaller than those on a Virus. They rotate smoothly and only wobble very slightly. My only real complaint is that the pads are really really small, but they're still usable. The real strength of the SL series is the software templates, which make controlling a DAW loaded with plugs a breeze. I use it to control Live, Kontakt, Battery, Pro-53, a few other plugs and all my external gear.

we have the one without the piano keys on it and it's pretty effing slickola

i wouldn't use it for dj;ing though...the shit isn't meant for that it seems...the faders are set too low and everything is kind of close together, you know?

on the ultra mega plus side it auto maps the knobs and faders with whatever effect you use in ableton live 6, which is super handy and it is stable as all hell

sizing up my workspace to see if I have room for a 37 - if not the 25 will be on order

I have been researching this controller for a bit and have found nothing but positive reviews - especially if you run Ableton Live.

Think I'll go for a Zero SL. Then I can get a big old midi piano for studio use.

get a midi keyboard with assignable knobs and faders and away ya go! millions of knowbs and faders!
that's the setup we have right now, novation thing with two midi keyboards, both with assignable 8 knobs and 8 faders

It's pretty nice. I am not a pro or anything, but my roommate has one and loves it.
The faders slide nice and smooth. Seems like they could handle a lot of use.
FL 7XXL has the software preloaded for it, so it's very easy to assign buttons and nobs and use them.

I use a KSR and can vouch for the quality of the faders and knobs. Really tuff and i've had it for at least 3 years now and it's not given me any probs so far. As for the remote series, I've only heard really good things so i would say get one.

I played with a SL25 in the store yesterday (switched off)

The faders are slightly short for my liking, but yeah, seem sturdy enough. For the money I won't be complaining!

Whats the price range of this thing here ... it looks like a mighty piece.. and just what ive been looking for.

Once i know the pricing range i can go search & determin how much im willing to pay for it.
