For those of you like myself, who adore the MPC's you will love this ...

I noticed on the Akai Facebook Page:
Tonight at Midnight (EST) we will change the way you make music forever!
And then this ... to create hype for the launch ...
Join in the conversation on Twitter use hash tag #MPC to share your thoughts and excitement!
So it's MPC related. I hope it's not a plastic controller using the MPC name. Will be a stupid move on their part and a lot of pissed of MPC users.

Anyone have light to shed on this? Feeling very excited if I must say so.

They may go the way of maschine (which imho is a brilliant piece of kit, but who knows).

I'm really hoping it's not a controller. I do love the Maschine, but I think the MPC name should live on as pure hardware.

I am hoping its an improvement on the previous MPC's (even though the other MPCs are perfect as they are ... the limitations are their strong points).

Yeah true, though tbh I think they'll start getting left behind if they don't - total integration will be necessary for them to compete with Maschine moving forward. PS - check wips thread, responded your wip ;)

fuck!!!!!!!!!

I am in two minds about the hardware/software integration thing. I've heard nothing but good things about Maschine, but for me part of the appeal of the MPC is the fact that it's dedicated hardware. I really hope it isn't an Ableton tie-in tho, like the APC.

I doubt it will be like that - more like a vst thing, if they're going in that direction.

What a piece of shit the new Renaissance is. Don't even deserve the title "MPC".

Deeply disappointed!

Nope it's not an MPC. It's just a controller.

It has I/O like the Maschine, so it's an MPC but the sequencer is handled on your comp as opposed to onboard like previous MPC's, like Maschine.

Just because there is an audio interface embedded within it does not make it an MPC. Rather than having the audio interface on your desktop, where you would do all you I/O they have put it inside the box. It does NOT make it a controller. <-- EDITED. I meant to say : it does NOT make it hardware.

Why do people find it difficult to understand this?

It is nothing like an MPC. Trust me pal, you're talking to a guy that uses a 2500 and a 60 on a near daily basis. I've been a tru MPC user for years.

yeah then i agree thats pretty gay. I mean its a cool peice of "hardware" but a mpc should be a stand alone product.

 An MPC has a 'computer' (a PCB with Processors among other things) inside of it and a screen to visually see what that 'computer' is doing, what made the MPC standout was it's distinctive onboard AD/DA and sound processing and the quantize functionality on the sequencer software and pads to trigger sounds.

This new thing has:
it's distinctive onboard AD/DA and sound processing
and the quantize functionality on the sequencer software
and pads to trigger sounds
only you now visually operate it via the included midi sequencer software on your computer.
Is that not a Midi Production Center

I also owned a 2000xl for years and my eyesight can tell you that.

it's distinctive onboard AD/DA and sound processing
That would be the audio interface.
and the quantize functionality on the sequencer software
So you would agree that the buttons on the box are controlling the software?
and pads to trigger sounds
Again controlling the software?
Is that not a Midi Production Center
Replace the word center with controller.

The rest of your post I ignored to save the hassle of repeating what I already said. Remove it from the computer, and lets see what sound you get. Nothing. Not a sound. You can no longer control anything.

@Pedro Sánchez ... Let me finally end this once and for all.

Take a trip to http://www.akaiprompc.com/

Now, what does it say on that page?

MUSIC PRODUCTION CONTROLLER! <-- Do you see that word? It says con.trol.ler

So you would rather stare at a small LCD display and flick through paged menus using softkeys and be limited to the onboard processing offering, rather than just plug in a USB cable to a PC or Laptop and exploit all the potential of modern software and the time saved in doing so? If that the case why didn't you stick to your MPC60. I don't know what you are expecting, traditional MPC's are not making AKAI enough money any more, production habits have moved on, the average studio is centered around a software driven computer and Maschine has set a benchmark in proving their model is leaving MPC's gathering dust.
