ok this quesiton or a similar question may have been asked before, so apologies if that is so, i did a search but couldn't find anything specific.

I wanna get some monitors, just for amateur lvl as they will be my first.

Ive done some research on the net etc. 'Active/Passive....i understand that, one needs an amp, the other has built in, cons and pros for each i presume.

the parts which im struggeling with is that some new monitors seem to have USB as well, any benefit here? ALSO, i use onboard soundcard atm (i have 2 actually, 1 on the graphics card too...if thats any better)

Does the usb mean i dont have to worry about getting a conversion to connect to XLR inputs, since it will do it digitally now. And does the USB connection give me an external sound card setup within the speakers? as i've read something like this before.

Thanks and sorry for the No0bism
The monitors will be for DAW's if its any relevance :)

if they have a built in audio interface, then it would be the same as an external soundcard. but without knowing the model, i couldn't say for certain. i would have thought that all the necessary info would be on the website thats selling the speakers?

yea i can't remember exactly where i saw it about the built in sound card, it may have been on some usb alesis monitors.

I prob just need to keep on researching it, just wanna make sure i don't buy some, then realize they sound duff with a standard sound card haha

Thanks though :)
