I`m purchasing some at the moment and they`ll be a better option imo to the Sens

Well I just checked and it says that the Beyerdynamics Dt990 were made in 2006. While the Sennheisers were made in 2008. The only new ones that I found with a lot of reviews were the Monster Beats which I'm guessing they are the Dre Beats or whatever?

I don't know if the year matters or what not. I've heard the Sennheisers HD25-1 II's cancel out noise really well for DJ'ing shows also.

I heard some headphones are too high in some freq's and some don't have bass etc.

What's good with the Beyers?

Are you looking to produce in a quite environment or load?
using them to DJ or produce?

Date means nothing, some of the older models are hands down better than the new stock.
Trust me, date really is a bad indicator if that`s what you`re using to judge quality.

Beyer DT990 are open headphones so not always suitable for djing or vocal tracking, but are ideal for producing because of the large soundstage - less fatigue, far wider spread of sounds, etc.

I can`t comment too much on the Senns but they`re definitely more suited to Djing rather than Producing.
Yes, many folks use them to produce but in the long run a set of pro-open backed phones like the Beyers will serve you better for production.

Alright I just did a little more research on headphones. Didn't know there were 3-types open/partially open/closed. The headphones I have right now are the Turtle Beach X1''s I used when I played a shit ton halo 3 mlg years back and now I'm using them for producing/mixing.

Here are the specs for the important parts.

How is this compared to other headphones? I really don't understand the >120dB part...I read up that anything that is under +3dB or something like that is good. The headphones are really bassy that I have but not that clear with sounds. I've heard stuff with my friends audiotechnicas(forgot which model but it was around $100-$200) and they were really clear/crisp but when it got too loud the treble sounded like it was piercing my ears....and there was no bass whatsoever.

So that said I need a good pair of headphones between $100-$220 range that are good on all frequency spectrums & deliver good accuracy because I looked online and it's all reviews of rock music mixing etc....Maybe the dsf community can help me out with this one. I'm getting some today in a little bit.

I also seen that everyone says don't mix on headphones or use them as a rough draft because of panning issues when you hear from headphones to studio monitors? But a lot of interviews I've seen of electronic music artists say they mix with just headphones on the go with their laptop?

So should I stick with my Turtle Beaches? Save up for monitors(can't blast music when my parents are home though & when I move out into an apartment probably)? Not buy headphones at all and just work on mixing with techniques etc.?

- Sennheiser HD25-1 II (Closed) $200? <=== I read up on something that the closed headphones nowadays can be up to par with open headphones in mixing which in the past it wasn't.

What good open headphones are there? I keep seeing HD25's everywhere I go online for electronic music/dubstep producing headphones for mixing for some reason even though they are closed headphones.

Will these headphones plug into my computer?
And do I need an amp? Or is it just to make the sound quality a bit better?

My head hurts. Sorry for the wall of text. I don't want to spend $200 on headphones that I'll regret and waste money.

For DJing the sennheiser HD25 all day long. Robust and all parts are replaceable.

I know a few producers on Tempa also use them to produce on. Of course they will then check the track on speakers later like most people.

I used to have the dt 990(beyerdynamic) and they are very good for long session of producing and the fact that they are open is far more comfortable than any closed headphones you will ever have.
But it's a matter of taste if i were you i would go to a store with my favorites tunes in my mp3 player and test all the headphones you have selected and see the one you like the best.

Alright thanks your comment. I don't DJ yet and only produce but from how consistent/popularity reviews I'm getting about these headphones I might just get them.

The Beyer DT 990 also looks good from what I see. Bigger frequency range/seems more comfortable. Is it better than the HD25-1 II's for producing? And can it plug into my computer? I'm a noob with plug sizes. It says 1/8 + 1/4 adapter included.

It's not better as i say before it is a matter of taste but the hd 25 will exhaust your ears faster than the dt 990 due to his close architecture.And yes the dt 990 is supplied with an adapter for the jack .

All of these are great models as far as I can tell.

Sorry mate, I disagree. A lot of sony is shit, but I have the MDR-7506's and their wicked. Every single bit of them is replacable, their sturdy (a friend has been using his for over 10 years, only replacing the ear cushions and the cord), their also imo very very good for mixing, a seriously accurate pair of cans.

They dont have the reputation of being industry standard for nothing.

HD-25's are imo pretty much the headphones for djing, but I've heard a few people saying they're are not reliable to produce on (well, mix on).

Best advice would be try them yourself, also look into frequency curves, clarity, etc. this website is really very good indeed
