Izotope has a plugin for it, I don't recall the name. Man, just bandpass slightly, bitcrush a bit and then tailor the highs at taste, the hiss and crackle are the soul of that kind of recording.

Well last I checked reason doesn't come with isotope but the other stuff seems reasonable.
I usually agree with you about the soul of the record are the artifacts, but this is the only know recording I could find and it's pretty bad but I just love those stoic old speeches :U:

This, they usually sit at 14~20 and 20~120 hz, don't know if I'm right but cutting around these regions always work for me, I love bad quality samples.

Title didn't say it had to be in reason..audacity is free and should host isotope rx or bitcrushers, etc.probably has. Native effects and probably better for processing your sample than reason

^ thats part of the reason why i finally broke down and bought logic. reason just lacks the flexibility of having any plugin at your fingertips for various tasks. granted there is probably a way to do it in reason, but its a lot harder. but i still love reason without a doubt its awesome.

fun fact: coolidge was such a laissez faire man, just sitting around in his office all day that when a famous actress was informed he had died she respinded "How can they tell?"

For free Audacity comes with some nice effects for cleaning up hiss/pops/noise, and will host 3rd party plugins. That plus careful EQ should be all you need. RX is expensive and the RX Advance plugin suite is really suited for cataloguing entire music collections and such, kind of overkill for something like this.

Audacity or Wavosaur are free and are both perfectly quited

I needed to do this ages ago and I ended up using a plugin or software, could of been one of Izotopes not totally sure.
The way the software/plugin worked was you would sample of bit of the noise (either before or after the talking starts) then load it into the software/plugin and it used it to cancel out the noise during the talking. It yielded better results then any frequency notching/cutting could of done, I was well impressed with it. Sorry I can't rememberthe name of it thou, but check out Izotpes stuff and see if it has this feature, if not search around looking for software that uses this method.

Niose removal, standard feature in most audio editors like Audition or the free Audacity ;-)

It works to a certain degree, but it does not completely remove the noise. In fact, the harder you push it, the more it degrades the audio quality which will be noticable as sort of tinny, metallic and flangy sound. It's definitely worth a try, but as Darigan said, you will need a short section in the recording which only has the noise. Also the noise across the recording should be near identical to the sampled profile, something like a white noise hiss etc, for it to work effectively. I suggest you give Audacity a try as it is free. The noise removal can be found under the tab "effects" approximately halfway down the dropdown.

Add even more crackle and make it sound like it's supposed to be there :D

yeah i've tried adobe audition before, thats the one where you can record the noise profile and subtract it from the sound. works pretty well, but as others have said, if you do it too much you'll end up getting that harsh digital artifact noise instead.

just listened to the speech, it might work on this because theres a constant hiss. but its a real bad recording, you're never going to get it great.
