Hello everyone, I've been listening to Shlohmo for a while now and I was wondering if there was anyone with a style similar to his? He has a very unique style, kind of plays on white noise in his Bad Vibes album, but it still has really nice melody, really nice drums. So I guess any artists that you guys know with this abstract hip hop style kind of style? Like Machinedrum, but more hip-hoppy? I don't know how to explain, hope someone understands
Anyways here is some of Shlohmo's tracks if you don't know who he is:
I usually don't support anyone who mixes Burial but baby jesus this track is amazing.
And this is probably my favorite track of his.

Check out the rest of the LA scene. Guys like Teebs (my personal fave), Flying Lotus, Tokimonsta, Samiyam, Low Limit/Lazer Sword. Mike Slott is an Irish head based in NY atm, very good stuff, kidkanevil is another producer in this vein. Sango has most (all?) his work up for free on Bandcamp, ditto a guy called B.Lewis.
Getting away from a strictly Hip-Hop vibe, Gold Panda is definitely worth checking out.
Heading back to Hip-Hop, Clams Casino of course, has to be included (massive album last year), he's producing for all sorts of rappers atm... Another producer I like is heRobust. Nosaj Thing! How could I forget! Just going through my iTunes there and can't believe I'd left him out. Onra makes fantastic music, I'm sure you've heard of Hudson Mohawke and Rustie. Star Slinger too maybe?
Anyway, instead of covering the page in videos, I'll link you to a free compilation Brainfeeder (FlyLo's label) have just put out. Well worth checking it out. http://www.brainfeeder.net/sampler/

fantastic starting list right here! maybe check out Eskmo, Lapalux, Shigeto are some others you'll probably dig. I just picked up Lapalux's latest EP and its pretty outstanding in my opinion. Really interesting production.

Haven't found fault with one of his remixes yet.
Got one of Shigeto's new EPs a little while ago (newest one?), have yet to really listen to it.

Not an expert by any stretch but isnt that more chopped and screwed rather than a remix?

you'd do well to check out some of the artists shlohmo is closely tied with via the friends of friends and wedidit collectives out in CA, especially RL grime, juj, d33j, salva, b.bravo...
highly recommend shigeto, these are a couple of jewels from his latest EP
ba-zinga where are you located? if by chance you're somewhere in or around london, this night is bang on the sound you're after
which reminds me.... samiyam (& om unit, but in a slightly different direction) definitely ones to check out

if you want a few suggestions, have a look at me and matt's 'song of the day' thread, constant variety of the instrumental hip-hop side of things, and add your own links too cos it seems to be just me and him over there and i'm not great company

^ Better than just me by myself
I really like Shlohmo's ''prettier'' tunes(textured, heavy atmosphere...). I think matthewdavid is a terrific producer of this sort of sound too. You can check out a lot of his stuff here: http://leavingrecords.com/

well worth buying, every track is gold, and has really opened me to the whole new rnb / dubstep / what ever this sound is

I was living in southern california and shlohmo/flying lotus/that whole scene got me into making electronic music fantastic to see others so excited about the stuff they are making. Currently I'm obsessed with Lapalux's Brainfeeder release (that lineup in London is insane..how I wish to live there) and Nicolas Jaar is making some very, very interesting stuff imo as well. Check out his recent remix of a shlohmo tune:
how did i not think of nicolas jaar?
dude makes out of this world beautiful music with so many textures...
keep your eyes peeled for his remix of shlohmo's "rained the whole time," should be out very soon
