By dubstep, does he mean Pendulum?? I went to a Carl Cox night at Space and they were headlining room 2 about 3-4 years ago.

I imagine he means 'I was playing dubstep in 2008, before Radio 1 made it mandatory to mention it every 12 minutes'

knew it wouldn't take long for this to surface, on the whole i think it's rather funny for the whole "timbaland, then korn, now carl cox.."

but i actually think there is legit backing that HE might have been around the sound, when the sound was in it's early stages, unfortunately for him though, so were a lot of the members of DSF, does that make them pioneers?

although, something about what my lecturer told me at uni, thinks that Carl Cox may have actually been aware of the sound in it's earlier stages, at least before it blew up with skrillex etc etc (so i guess i'm saying around 2007ish.. ?)

funny, but there might be a bit of truth too it, although he is by no means a pioneer, he is a legend, but not a pioneer, or anything major to the genre.

he said before dubstep was called dubstep, so think more 2000-2003, which we all know isn't true
man was a pioneer back in the day, it's ridiculous that he still has to make such factitious claims to further boost his ego

2007 the sound was already blowing up, at least a proper genre of music. Your uni lecturer doesnt know shit.

if he was a pioneer, i'm certain we'd know about it, i just realised that even with the boldding it still doesn't make the sense i intended it too.. so i re-edited it inside the quote

my uni lecturer was Davide Carbone, founder of BS1 records, said he was working with carl on his upcoming release/album or whatever, and that they'd been 'friends' for quite some time... it's possible that he was pushing the sound relatively closer than any other random big name person who claims to pioneer dubstep, but yeah, as i said, if he was a pioneer, we would've known it, lol, i just think it's slightly possible that he worded it incorrectly, or infact he was in contact with the early sounds!

at the end of the day, carl cox's name, korn's name, timbalands name, are all not mentioned when you talk about the beginning of the genre.

EDIT: i also know the history of the sound, i just thought it was unlikely he was on the sound in the early 00's, considering your average member of the general public think the sound birthed around 2010.
