Headphone Repair

I have a pair of Grado SR80i headphones, and the sound in the right can has deserted me due to a loose connection. I'm assuming it would just be a case of soldering the wire back onto the connection, but I have no idea how to get inside the headphone. They are out of warranty so sending them off to Grado would start getting expensive. Has anyone ever deconstructed a Grado or other type of headphone before and can explain how to go about it?

Cheers.

I'm pretty sure it's at the headphone end. When it first started I could fiddle with the wire and get the sound back but now it's totally gone.

you're best checking the jack first anyway, it unscrews open easily (just twist it) and you can see if the soldering has come undone or anything before you start messing about with the headphone end.. have a look and see anyway

Do you have a hardware store near you?
They sell various hammers of differing sizes, they`ll all work.
You`ll find the lighter hammers will suite your needs best as they are lighter and therefore require less back swing.

Good site for reference. I got my Grado Hammer from my local Hi-Fi shop, doesn't look dissimilar to that ball pein hammer, only mine has a more claw back and a shorter handle. Can't begin to describe how many times it's helped me repair my cans
