I was challenged to a DJ battle against a Laptop DJ (I spin Vinyl and CDs) and I saw him play last week, it was so weak. Total "Pussy-Step" compleatly off a lap top, no midi controller or any sort of interface, it just sounded so fucking bad, like poorly matched bitcrush distortion with absolutely no bass weight what so ever. What's with these guys? since when does it become ok for anyone to "DJ" on a sound system, in a club, where people are dancing, w/out any sense of rhythm.
fuck this is a depressing topic to think about,
I hope the next generation rediscovers the beauty of vinyl.

How does the quality of his set relate to the gear he played on (aside from the lack of interface which I'd say is pretty vital)? Could be he was just a bad DJ?
If you simply meant it's weird how people who have no DJing skills whatsoever get to play in clubs etc, then I completely agree though

I actually had a dream about this which is weird cuz i don't play out, but for some reason i was djing and only my friends were in the crowd and i didn't even have a dj software, so i was using the volume sliders between iTunes and youtube, and then i had to use my phone because my laptop died and i was frantically trying to think of song to google search to open in youtube and then i turned around( i was in some like shambala like place) and my dad was there just watching.....it was a weird ass dream

how do you dj battle?
lol i feel like dubstep dj's arent really into turntablism
they can beatmatch and double drop etc, but thats not much of a flex of skill because all (MOST) of the songs are exactly the same bpm anyways
not talking down on it, but most dubstep dj's would not survive a real dj battle.
scratching and beatjuggling etc.
