hey all, so i have a shitty keyboard (obviously). its pretty small so not all the keys are there, i believe its only 32 keys so I cant play every single note that shows on my daw. especially working with drums its hard cuz i cant use my keybaord to play the 1st-the 5th drum channel because my keyboard doesnt have those keys that are assigned to those channels. I think I read somewhere that you can shift your keys up or down so that the keys will be shifted down octaves or up octaves to be able to play lower or higher without having to hit the notes in your daw itself. I mostly want to try this for my drums, not really anything else. It was awhile ago so I wasnt that interested. but is this possible or not?

Well first off what daw are you using because hotkeys are different depending on Daw. Also, when you say you can't play the 1st-the5th drum channel, explain a little what you mean.

does you keyboard not have oct- oct+ buttons?

im usin reason 4 and its not the hotkeys on my actuall pc keyboard but its on my midi that im havin trouble with. Its a cheap midi so no it doesnt have + or - oct options. what im wanting to do is shift my keys down on actave or 2 so that i am able to use my keybaosrd with all my drum channels on redrum. is there a way I can manually do this if the midi itself doesnt have options for this? The midi just has keys nothing else. I was on a very tight budget when i bought it but desperately need one so thats why I didnt go all out. Thanks for the very quick response guys

Hmmm. Well if the keyboard does not support octave switch thats a little annoying. A lot of keyboards (Like mine actually switch octaves by pressing mode then some random key) but since your Midi doesn't have buttons besides the On/Off then thats tricky. Have you tried switching the octaves in redrum or reason. Sorry I'm not too familiar with Reason. In FL studios I would just go into my controllers options and set it that way. Since reason is a pretty flexible daw I'm sure this is some kind of way to do what your talking about.

I`m sure even reason has a function to transpose the octave

welll my midi doesnt even have an on off haha. i have to unplug it to turn it off. Im not sure if redrum has those options or if i have to go into reasons options. ive looked in reasons preferences options and didnt see anything. I think i might have seen a transpose notes in redrum but ill have to look. im not sure how to use that function tho

You should try manually mapping the drum channels you need, I think it's in Edit/Preferences/Override remote mapping... or something like that. It should sort of grey out your rack and let you choose almost any parameter to map to any midi command. Not in front of my PC right now or I'd be more specific.

I just figured it out so I can key map just one device in a combi. I really only want it for my drum racks so i can play all the drum channels on my keybaord. its all in the programmer of the combi

lol glad you got that figured out. I was trying to figure it out for u and losing my head using reason. I have the Alesis Q25 and i think you can get a used one in good condition for just under 40 bucks or so. Well worth it. Pitch mods and a Mod wheel. Up/Down octaves and assignable keys. I may actually get rid of it here soon to upgrade so if you want it look it up I'd give it away for maybe 10 bucks to a fellow artist. Let me know if you're interested I'll send you pics and stuff. Your keyboard sounds like its complete crap.

I'm in southern california. And sick your lucky! I hate the US. Just my opinion though. was always Curious if aussie is any better.

haha I used to live in washington. Trust me I know what thats like. Massachusetts gets a tad colder though. I'll tell you why. I drove through utah for christmas last year and I never understood how fucking empty that state is till I drove 100miles or so with no sign of life.

did u drive through southern utah? if u did then yes it is alllllllll desert haha northern utah is very scenic tho. its one of the states wher u can drive through the desert then all of a sudden be in the high mountains then be in thick pine forests haha.
