I'm wondering what sample pack Koan Sound gets there snares from. I know the whole 200hz snare trick and I use it all the time but mine are more layered and EQ'd to stick out. It seems like the coolest sounding ones are super notey and futuristic sounding. i'm wondering what sample pack they get it from. I have Vengeance and they have some really good ones, but none that really touch Koan Sounds snares. Anyone have some good sample packs they use or can direct me to some good ones in vengeance?

Layer a 909 snare with a pitched 200hz 808 kick for the punch, a mid rangeish acoustic snare, a wide stereo clap and a white noise hit, works for me.

Download halftones sample pack it's on here somewhere, use snares 1 1.2 and 1.4 and adjust the decays on some compress and eq = bam koan snare

I found a cool trick, you can also layer with a tom sample. Works great!

Combination of a few 909 snares and a tom sample and some white noise gives great results as well. If you already have good processed snares but just want more notey-ness, jus try the tom sample and EQing the snare for the tom sample to fit.

I posted one of my snares in another thread but i'll post it here too, i think it's a pretty good start to be honest so if you wanna use this as a base sound and tweek from there then go ahead!

^ All from the above + sounds like a pitched up sample.

i just wanna know, cuz i'm not sure.... but am i the only one who can't STAND this kind of snare? since like a year and half ago or so there' NOTHING BUT overcompressed fucking 909/dnb snares. i just think it sounds tacky as hell. a little bit is okay, but jeez... i remember when you could get away with an actual snare sound in dubstep...

Over-compressed 200hz snares win's you grammy's, TRUTH! lol and noone is forcing anyone to use them in YOUR music lol. use a old school unprocessed snare if you want.... but i always prefer a clap to a dry snare... unless its a rimshot man i got a fucking weird love for rim shots... with some delay, old dub stylee.

i kind of agree, there are so many sick snares in dubstep
this dnb snare, it works in a lot of beats, but overall it's a brosnare. and like all things bro, it gets boring kinda quick

I know this is an old post but... Koan snares actually hit higher then 200, its more like 250 which gives a more notey punch. If u have a snare that hits 200hz pitch it up a few semitones and add a generous eq boost around where it peaks around 240-250 and transient shaper plus saturation after that will get you this sound.

yes for god's sake people get this number stuck in there head round here as the end all be all of snare glory. snares come in wood, metal, plastic, deep, shallow, wide, skinny...and then you can tighten the rattles and heads. SO MANY POSSIBILITIES. i do find drum machine samples are a good start for me, and they always seem to cut through the mix :?
