fair enough, i just use the eq 3 really. would be interested to know what ppl think about splitting with auto filters. i mean is there really any big difference between the 2 when it comes to the final product?

i use multiband dynamics, and turn it completely to dry. then duplicate the chain 3x in a group and solo low, mid, and high in the respective chain. and you have all 3 split frequencies easily accessible. i feel like using auto filter or eq3 would leave some overlapping/gaps. multiband probably does the same exact thing though i have no clue haha

I didn't tried with Auto-Filter but don't do it with EQ3 or Multiband Dynamics. They're not linear phase so they color the sound (auto-filter ain't too, so it probably has the same problem).
Well, you can still do it, but make sure you A/B first to check what was affected.

I didn't ruled out. It's just a warning to keep your ears open to the coloring effect (may be none, but sometimes it's drastic, like loosing lowend).
The best alternative are linear-phase multiband plugins. Or linearphase EQ's but it's a bit harder to set crossover points. There are some free ones arround.
