Be Straight Up With Me

I got enough cash saved up, that I can afford the Yamaha HS80M's, and from hearing them before, DAAAYYYUUMMMMM!, BUT, would the KRK8"s be just as good?
and Im seeing that Pioneer, has these new Monitors out that seem quite good as well, but cant hear them til next weekend, Now I have $1000 CDN (same as US give or take) and am using the Xone 2D as a soundcard, so Id like to save a little bit of cash so that in a few months I can replace the 2D with the MOTU external audio interface. im 90% on the Yamaha's as those are in EVERY pro studio...

I'd beg to differ, I heard that the KRK's are sort of the industry standard for home studios.

What do you mean? They are both competing in the same cheap entry level market. Cheap as in price, not quality. TBH if he looked hard enough he could probably get both for that price. I've seen pairs of HS80s go for around 450us on ebay. The KRK G2s go for even less.

Shadow, not sure what pro studios you mean, but you won't find them in that many. Don't confuse them with Yamaha NS10s which are its predecessor and look almost exactly alike. Those were industry standard for years yeah. Ironically because they were shit.

I love the HS-50's, prefer them to the same level KRK's.

Not sure about the HS-80's though, haven't had any real experience with them, so can't really say if the above still holds. Just make sure the bigger monitors are not too big for your room.

wtf :cornlol:

KRKs are over hyped, fucking yellow speakers :cornlol: If you have a nice or/and treated room, go with the HS80M, they have enough bass and a really flat sound. They do cause a lot of ear fatigue due to the flatness, when writting or just messing around with (i.e listening to music), just set it to -2db on the mid section.

I got a pair of Mackie HR824's off of Ebay for about 600 dollars and I love them. Better than both the KRK's and the HM80's in my opinion. They go down to about 40 hz and have nice clear highs. Hell, Icicle uses them so they can't be all bad, he cranks out quality shit on them.

If you want to go with the current trend, the KRKs are used by a loooooot of signed artist... The Yamaha NS10s are maybe the ones you mentioned are in every pro studio... But they are dirt cheap. You could buy the KRKs AND the NS10s with not much more cash.

I dunno about the price difference but If I was going to throw a grand on monitors I wouldn't got for brands like KRK.

While KRK are good; you're getting into the higher end of the middle range of monitors with that budget - take a look at a pair of genelec 8030A's a pair in GBP's is just under a grand.

You could probably get NS10s and the KRKs for a grand though with some ebaying.

hsms are (or are supposed to be) active ns10s

Am I the only person who doesn't get why people spend 1000's of pounds on hardware when aren't even signed yet? Get the krk's, I have rp6's and they're perfect. If you really are adamant you want to spend tons, look into genelecs, I have a friend who owns a studio and has dealt with tons of moniters and is kind of an expert, he has genelecs and swears by them.

I have more money than I need, so I end up investing a small sum that's left each month in charity (sometimes I buy school books or help fund children's day / christmas / easter events in daycares) and in music and art in general, simple.

Yeah I said about genelecs - they're mental if you can afford them.

And people spend a lot of money without being synthed because its their hobby.. Just like DJs will spend a couple a grand a year on vinyl. Someone whos into serious gaming - they will plant a grand or two into their computer every 6-18 months.

We live in a society of stupid amounts of disposable income which we spend on huge HD TVs and clothes which have name tags on them - buying music gear is much more benefiting to me.

Skrillex released his Scary Monsters And Sprites album off 1 Krk Speaker RP6 living like a hobo in 12th Planets Club or whatever. And Flux Pavilion released Lines In Wax and his other albums/songs from KRK RP6/RP8's I forgot which. But he has pics of his "studio" on his facebook and they are pretty recent.

Even some known names used KRKs/still use KRKs. It doesn't matter whatchu get really. You can buy a $1000 set of speaker monitors and a treated room but if you suck at producing & have a bad ear for things then your product is still going to sound like shit.

I produce on headphones cuz I'm broke =]

Hey legend4ry, don't you use Sony MDR-7506? I just ordered a pair, how are you liking them?

I had a pair... I left them (stupidly) at the booth at a night after having them for like 3 months.

I actually went for the new KRK headphones (the most expensive ones) because I saw them in a store and preferred the shape to the MDRs and they're a really nice pair of headphones, comfortable and sound pretty decent.
