On the decks more than 10 years, Subtek started out mixing Hip Hop in the mid-90s, turning heads in his native Fresno. Always a sonic adventurer, by '97 he was mixing Jungle into his sets as well as the dubbed out, left-field sounds of Trip Hop, Illbient, and Breaks.
By '01 he was one of the first heads on the west coast to tune into the 2-step vibes from across the Atlantic. Between then and now he's produced, played at, and been a resident at a slew of events in San Francisco and Fresno, including Upfront and Essential in Fresno, the legendary Bottom Heavy night at The Top on Haight St. in San Francisco, Get Low at various spots in the City and the Choon Up at Nickies.
Now Subtek is living in Oakland and is a part of the Bay Area's B.I.G. Crew with Megatron, Jamin Creed, The One, DJ Munk, and MC Child. Together, B.I.G. presents the West Coast's only regular Grime and Dubstep event, Grime City. Going strong for over 2 years, the monthly at Anu has already turned heads and has had guests like DJ Ripple, the mighty Joe Nice from Baltimore, DJ Tomas of Voltage Recordings, Dave Q from Dub War NYC, and DJ Distinction (Dubpolice - UK) with future guests from the UK in the works.
Their Western Addition Radio show, Grimewave FM, is back on the air in San Francisco and is currently the only regular Grime and Dubstep pirate radio program in the states.
Subtek's style is ever changing as he seeks out the freshest beats from around the world and he's played alongside heavy-hitters across many scenes, inlcuding many of the big names in Grime and Dubstep (DJ Hatcha, Youngsta, Plasticman, Vex'd, DJ Distance, Pinch, Juju and Kode9) as well as Mark Farina, Jeno, Simply Jeff, DJ Collage, Jason Mundo, Star Eyes, Kid Kameleon, and Zion I.
