mercury prize, no burial: officially c*ntz

just saw the mercury prize shortlist. its not like i give it any credo like, but i always scope it just to see if the sanitized music industry has taken any notes. saying that i was really baffled that mr manuva didnt win it with Run.., n was well pleased that dizzee won it, not just cos IM down with that, but that those albums were so good EVERYBODY should been down.

now, the fact that the burial album wasnt even on that list is just another reminder for me that its not worth shit. it is everything the mercury prize should be trying to promote, fresh, distinctive, with a quality all comers could understand. its not even a scene thing and its not a huge revelation that the media, industry et al are dean koontz, but when something as singularly awe inspiring as burial is passed over for jamie koonting T and a ropey dizzee return, i get screw face

Its always been a crock of shite. Why worry about it.The only decent act to win it was Roni Size and that was a good ten years ago(?) all these awards are a fix and a music industry bumming session.Fuck it we all know its one of the best albums to come out in the last decade.

Yeah but, the mercury is the death nail for most artists. There are a few exceptions but, you know what i mean.

Case in point.Look at the sea of shite that Roni has released since New Forms. Its embarassing.Burial would be producing Niche within the year if he was to win :D (joke)

What about portishead and dizzee?

Shame not to see Burial. Amy Winehouse is the only one i would like to see win. V boring selection!

Not that I attach any relevance to Mercury or am trying to defend them in any way, but Burial might not be there because
1) It's well over a year old now (in fact I think there's a similar thread from this time last year)
2) I'm pretty sure the label has to nominate albums for consideration, maybe Kode9 thinks as much of the awards as we all do....

Nah, dont worry about Burial not getting a look in...

I absolutely adore the fact that no one knows about this music. There is no stigma attached to it like other musical genres and it is really really listenable even for non-heads. Lets keep it that way.

I would hate to see the bigwigs get their hands on it.
