vinyl is still the yardstick to measure a tune by and dubplates ensure only the choicest cuts make it to vinyl...
...its not a money thing its an exclusivity thing
slowly changing though...
IMHO

maybe they dont wanna flood the market,ya have to ease new tings into the market or there will be a free for all-dubstep is still pretty exclusive.

maybe they want you to have to rip the MP3 before you pirate it, instead of just downloading it, and then pirating it

well, im not looking for the dubplate pressure, those days were for dnb and those days are long gone. with that being said, i dont mind waiting 2-3 weeks after the vinyl release for DMZ 8 to come out on mp3. when you mix in your studio and do one show ever month or so, the exclusivity isnt a priority.
i dont want to buy vinyl anymore. its too expensive (only going to get more expensive) compared to a mp3 than you can do anything with.
as far as pirating goes... no matter what format it comes out on first, if the pirates want them, the pirates will get them.

you can't touch an MP3 though. And your MP3 won't be worth 120 bucks in 15 years.

Very true
im asking labels to simply supplement their vinyl sales with mp3 releases.
And they should, it's only a matter of time until every record is available as mp3.

labels don't even need to...
...the artists can do it themselves by stating their wish to control the digital format and just sign the license to reproduce on vinyl and CD over for any number of territories
then getting an agent to rep them to the download sites for a percentage of course...

Scientifically, MP3 is inferior to vinyl because of the frequency range that vinyl can produce.
MP3 cannot achieve that same range of frequency, simply by design. MP3 crunches files and compresses them to preserve size.
The lower the quality, the lower the high end of the tracks. At 320, there is no NOTICABLE difference, but the difference which you cannot notice, DOES affect what you are able to hear.
You do know how sound waves work right? It's like wind blowing, and you can't SEE it, but you can feel it... any producer will tell you that the frequency at which you record certain parts at makes the difference in good percussion and bad percussion... snap on the snares and hi's of the hihats.
Now what does this have to do with sounds you CAN here?
Simple.. if the northern cold front comes blowing down across America, and collides with a southern warm front, there is a storm... same concept, only it's sound waves and not wind.
Don't worry though, I still buy MP3's all the time... I'm just saying, they are scientifically inferior... and this has been proven.

thanks for the weather lesson. you forgot to tell us how hail is formed.
OMG!! FFS....
READ THE F**KIN THREAD MAN!!!
you dont need to sell me on the quality of mp3 over vinyl.

I know what you said, I'm telling you that they won't release more MP3's because discerning buyers will be spending money on vinyl... it's a fucking investment, man.
For more than just the reason that you can touch vinyl, the quality is better, and it will still have value after 15 years, whereas that MP3 will just be something that anyone with a good connection will be pirating.
I know what you're saying, I buy them as well... release more... but they won't--and that is WHY. Now chill the fuck out. I read what you said, and replied with why they won't.
Take it or leave it, it's what I got.

Fuck MP3s. You think the likes of DMZ go through the whole production/mastering/cutting process, getting their shit to sound as good as it does just to be ruined by the signal-crippling process of converting to MP3? Its like spending millions on making a film just for people to go and watch it on a black and white TV.

To be fair, I'm ripping all of my classic vinyl to wav's and in some cases mp3, so I don't wear it out. MP3 is just as good for some people's purposes, and admittedly, the difference isn't noticable to even the most tuned ear(which mine isn't anymore, I have constant ringing.)
the point is, it's snobbery... I can admit that I am a music snob.
