Sry, a bit of a cake and eat it too situation.
Only advice is to find a better pitch which effects the audio less but still sounds good
as your going to get artifacts no matter what when u pitch things and they can't really be just eq'd out...
Although eq'ing can be helpful when pitching stuff anyways so it might help a little but probably not to the extent you want.

Applying an expander and a gate should get you usable material

It's probably better than opening sytrus and putting a lfo on a saw wave, haha.

Ham VSt.

or do what you said, LFO something other then a lowpass filters cutoff. lfo a bandpass filter, or a notch filter, or a comb filter, or the amplitude of your synth, or the amplitudes of each osc in the synth, or the resonance of a formant filter, or the frequency of a formant filter, or an overdrive amount, or the parameters in your waveshaper, its got pre-and-post filters, or the amplitude pre-reverb, or an osc phase, or any of the other 1,000s of parameters in your DAW?

Your getting into a really deadlycycle if you do the same things everytime you design a patch.

When I was a newbie they had to tell me to slow down and stop experimenting so much, it blows my mind to see people get all step-by-step about music.

I try not to go step by step but I find out hard not to when learning I have started experimenting a little but I can't ever put enough time into it ...it's hard to do when you only get like 30 min a day :(
