NEWCASTLE: SAT JULY 28: NO NAME FESTIVAL: COKI, MUNDO; FREE
Posted: Thu Jul 19, 2007 4:31 pm
NO-FI , www.no-fi.org.uk, presents:
NONAME
Line-up: COKI, MUNDO, BASS CLEF, ARTWHORE, DAVE GUY, NIK BARRERA
Date: 28 Jul, 2007
TIME: 6PM TO MIDNIGHT
Venue: The Tyne, Newcastle
Cost: FREE!!!
Its summer time again and, for the first of 2 NoName outdoor parties this summer, bass is the place!
Coki is one half of Digital Mystikz, one of the prime forces in spreading dubstep's influence across the UK, Europe and the US and, as massive tracks like 'Officer' illustrate, a monster producer in his own right.
Mundo sends out huge, modulating bass lines from his base in Texas with a sound something like Rhythm&Sound with a rock hard edge and steppers' trimmings. Check out his ace series of 10"s on Dub Assembly.
Bass Clef is the work of Londoner Ralph Cumbers, who takes his love of dub, dancehall and the odd bit of IDM and shoves it through his lo-tech yet pristine non-linear midi set-up to produce bass drops and low-end shuffles to die for. An enigmatic sound with one foot in dubstep and the other in its own smoky hemisphere, the theremin lacing his live sets makes him finally irresistible.
Newcastle's own eternal wealth of talent ices this cake, with Steve Legget and Bob Burroughs aka Artwhore smearing us in live, underwater dub atmospheres, after Messrs Guy and Barrera have opened us all up with their throbbing decks.
Newcastle, summer, huge bass bins, huge bass, sat by the river drinking beer - we'll see you there.
