Is there any way in FL 10 to make it so that every single channel you add in the channel window gets its own free mixer track without you having to do it manually each time?

When you add your device, add it to the mixer channel you want. Use the plugin picker, pick your synth, and drop it on your channel.

No. But you Ctrl + L isn't a very hard short cut to remember.

That is my favorite shortcut for when I've got like 5 hats that all want to go to the same track. Normally I just do it by hand if it is an individual synth or something. But the plugin picker is pure sexyness, as I like physically can't read through long lists of names of plugins.

nowaysj, not sure what you mean.

google search plugin picker. You graphically pick your plugin and drag and drop it onto your mixer track. If I'm not tripping, you can do the same dragging samples from the browser. Yeah, 95% sure you can drag samples onto the mixer channel you want it routed to.

I use a template, so that every time I open up FL, I have wrappers for all my basses so that when I replace that wrapper with Massive, FM8 or whatever, it'll be routed to the mixer. I also have an FPC with space to 4 different kicks, snares, whatever, and all of them are routed to the mixer aswell. This saves me A LOT of time.

I highly recommend you making a template for certain things. I have a template for both arrangement sessions and resampling sessions.

I have the same thing set up, plus a bass splitting templete, and a drum bus with a few different categories, and some ny compression already set up. It really does save time, and i can't recommend it enough.

for example, what are they exactly? like a preset for a daw? and what are their main purpose and how do I make one?

With a nice and set up template you will avoid having to route every single sample, synth or whatever to the mixer. All the slavery work is gone, which is really really awesome. I have uploaded a couple of pictures in hope that you will get idea a bit better. And yes, I guess you could call it a preset for your DAW.

Every wrapper (Bassline 1, 2, 3...) is routed to the mixer.


I even have a channel set up for sidechaining on BANK B

Start a blank project, and set it up as you want it, with all your instruments/channels/effects/whatever.

Once you've done, that, do file Save As > Templates > User > [create a new folder with the name like template1] > template1.flp


It'll then appear in the New From Template > User sub menu next time you start FL Studio.

I did this, then found it very regimented because i'd either have loads of unused channels or lots of wrongly named channels and just felt like a step backwards to a nice work flow.


Whichever works for you though of course!

Have worked for years without a template in fl because everything is so fast to set up. If you tried that with other daws, you may find misery. Anyway, I've started to be formulaic enough that I think I could use a very broad template, reverb and delay buss, a couple of premaster groups should do it for me.

Always found templates to be a restrictive ballache. Tried using them once and never bothered with them since, I kind of like the whole blank canvas feel when I start a new project.

Never really looked into shortcuts would be cool to hear some useful ones anyone knows?

The main ones I use are F6/F7/F9 (step sequencer/piano roll/mixer) crtl+l (assign to free mixer track).

Alt+up/down arrow on step sequencer (moves wrapper up/down)


I haven't really thought "I need a short cut for this" with anything else.

I use TAB to switch between windows in FL and Shift+click to rename stuff but that's about it really. Will use that Alt+arrow for moving wrappers though, always wanted to be able to reorganise instruments within their groups

Long winded one, but I've been using this, and when you are jamming, shit is invaluable:

shift+f4, it jumps to the next available pattern, you can name it, drop it in the playlist set up your loop and hit R to record, all with your right hand, as your left hand is still playing the part on the keyboard.
