lol ok maybe not creamy but im having trouble getting this chicks vocals to sit well over my chords. I kno ts bad to have a poppy lead going under vocals as it tends to clash so ive eliminated that, ive also bused pads/chords together with vocals an tried glueing them together with light tape saturation and tiny bit of compression in 5k-7k range. Ive done other little things but ive done everything i feel like i could do but they just arent sitting perfect and i cant continue until they are "perfect". Please guys i need help on this one preferably to you guys who have a good understand of mixing with vocals and mixing in general. Already searched but this is kind of a personal road block .....

EDIT: new example up on may 25th..... needs to be a couple db louder and needs a bit more De-essing but did i get it to sit well??

As far as I can listen, they are way too quiet in the mix. Vocals should be the most present in the mix. I personally think it has way too much reverb.

Yup she's too quiet, reverb does not sound nice.

Personally I'd say she needs more high end. What mic did you use to record?

Try boosting more in the high end and use a brighter reverb with a delay to get that depth without sounding so muddy.

Yep way too much reverb and I'd also up the higher ends and up the volume overall.

thanks guys, il check out that thread an brighten up the verb...... the verb is a combination of logics space designer and oxfords verb plugin, the oxverb tbh sounds terrible for anything other then early reflection imo. I really don't want to have to re record as its a collab through online an this chick is kinda clueless but i liked her voice. Anyways thanks for helping il try backing off with the the verb an hopefully i can get it a bit more natural sounding, thanks for the responses.

Yeah like others said, the reverb is way too heavy.. Sounds like she's in some big ass museum, all alone..

So i put a small bright plate verb on them an they are sounding better but the placement seems unatural an wierd still, im going to maybe put wierd delay filters and just try an make it fit but i cant just leave it like that. An oscillator give up your social life for 2 years and just sit in your room experimenting with sound design lol ADD helps too

First I would try duplicating the vocals, high passing one set and putting the reverb only on that... but yeah ease up on it (also EQ the reverb via a send). Are you using a compressor on the vocals? Try to. Maybe even parallel compression (re: duplicating vocals). There's also some nasty high resonance going on in the synths, gotta get that under control because vocals take up the most frequencies out of any other part in a mix. It'll clash easily and fight for space the whole time.

besides whats been mentioned, you can also duplicate and hard pan one left and one right and maybe a mono in the middle fro some super width.

yikes. compress really hard, use a simple plate verb on a send, and a 1/4 or 1/8th (or both) delay. all that reverb junk is masking what the vocal actually sounds like, and makes it sound cheap-- as verb so often does.

early reflection verbs pretty much have no place on a lead vocal unless you're going for a super-intimate vibe, which it doesn't sound like.

okey dokey.... Im using a much brighter plate verb with zero early reflection an high end of the verb is slightly boosted. A suprresor on 4-7k an light compressor on 5-7.5k . I might have bounced it out with it sitting a bit quiet still but did i close? Not final or anything but i feel like im in the ballpark now, you more experienced producers can lmk. I cant sing so its hard as a producer to understand vocals although I am a bit of a musician...... il get it eventually but this is my first track with a bigger vocal section an im still not sure if i gotten it to sit? don't be so fiddly w/ this stuff. the balance should come from compression (more) and eq (less); the verb just to sit it in a space. if the verb doesn't sound right, just use a different tool rather than compress/eq/multiband/whatever the verb.

dont be so fiddley? im just going by what i thought "sounds best" after experimenting with about 100 different fx chains...... I take my production pretty serious an i cant get it to fit, i don't care if i had to put a sausage fatter on the vocals if it sounds good to il keep it, it just isnt sounding good enough for me the way its standing
